FAQs
Otford Netball club is run by a committee and relies on volunteers to help keeps costs and fees low each year. Many of our committee members also have jobs and therefore will aim to respond to any queries as quickly as they can. We also rely on parents to help as team managers on match days to help with admin and logistics. If you have spare time to offer and you want to get involved – please get in touch via email - membership@otfordnetballclub.com
Training
Regular training is held at Trinity School in Sevenoaks. Sometimes the venue is not available the club will attempt to arrange an alternative venue to keep training running rather than cancel sessions. This may also result in a slight change to training times depending on what venue we are able to secure. Venues we have used in the past are Weald of Kent Grammar (In Sevenoaks), Bat and Ball Community Centre MUGA, Cramptons Road, Sevenoaks, New Beacon School, Sevenoaks.
Kit
Club kit is not required for training sessions. It is needed for matches – the committee run a second hand kit from current or ex player donations.
The kit can be purchased from Horncastles via the following link - https://www.horncastles.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=otford
Matches
Players need to be match ready before they are selected for matches by the coaches. Once players are match ready we ask that they make a commitment to be available for matches on Saturday from 9am to 13:00
Some of our squads are larger than others (for various reasons) – you may not be selected for every match if you are available (although coaches do try their best to get players as much match experience as possible). If you are selected for a match you will play for at least half of the match. Squads are formed based on ability/position rather than age.
We currently have 4 junior teams (Y7-11) and 2 Bee teams (primary aged) in the SJNL. (https://sevenoaksjuniornetballleague.com)
Membership
All members that play in matches will need a England Netball membership your ENA number will need to be uploaded to Pitchero
(https://www.englandnetball.co.uk/membership/become-a-member)
How we use pitchero:
Pitchero is used by (parents of ) players and coaches club admin for training, matches and communication.
For training you will be able to select whether you will be expected to set your availability ahead of the sessions.
For matches you are expected to set your availability, the coaches will then select the team based on availability (and other factors). The team will be published on pitchero and then you will be expected to respond to selection by acknowledging that you have been selected and will be attending. Whatsapp team groups are run to help with match day logistics.
Netball ready.
We expect players to turn up to training and matches netball ready;
Short nails
No jewellery - Earrings are not able to be taped - England Netball insurance does not cover this. If your child's ears are not pierced please do not do it during term time if your child is not able to remove their earrings they will not be able to train or play (the summer holidays is a great time to get this done!)
Hair tied back (no sharp clips/claw grips)
With a netball (size 4 for primary aged and size 5 for year 7 and above)
With a full waterbottle/enough water for the session
Having used the toilet - a lot of time is wasted with primary players using the toilet during the session
With supportive appropriate footwear - fashion trainers are not suitable, there is a great selection of netball trainers on the market, but court shoes or cross trainers would provide suitable support for the foot/ankle. Please speak to the coaches if you need help or further advice.
Suitable clothing depending on indoor or outdoor, for outdoor training thin layers and a waterproof layer would be advisable.
A bag for belongings - having a large plastic bag in wet weather is ideal as you can store your belongings courtside without them getting wet.
Fees/Costs
Annual Fees are currently £250 which cover all training sessions for the year, we ask for these upfront at the beginning of the season in installments, these are not refundable. Fees will be adjusted if you join partway through the year. If you play in matches there will be a £5 match fee for every match you play.
