  • SURVEY REGARDING THE PEOPLES' VOICE CAFE'S COVID MASKING POLICIES

  • The Peoples' Voce Cafe ("PVC") is considering whether or not to change COVID policies at some point during this 2023-2024 season. Despite this long and necessary introduction, we welcome and appreciate your response to this very short survey! As you know, the PVC currently requires masks for concert attendees. Given changes in the public health environment, the PVC is reviewing whether or not to (a) lift the mask requirement, and (b) bring back the sale of beverages and baked goods at the performances. Masking and food policies are connected. Serving food makes it much more difficult to have an effective mask requirement. (It is, therefore, unlikely that food sales would resume while the mask requirement is in effect.)
  • Arguments In Favor Of The Change

Arguments in favor of making these policy changes include the following: (1) The CDC no longer has vaccination and mask requirements and neither do government agencies and most businesses because the transmission risk has decreased as has the presence of more virulent strains of COVID; (2) In addition to the buildings' filter system, the PVC utilizes three HEPA air filters within the performance space; (3) COVID is not transmitted through food; the refreshment sales were stopped during the pandemic only to minimize people removing their masks; and (4) the PVC Collective has already decided to increase the audience capacity for each performance.
  • Arguments Against The Change

Arguments against making these policy changes include the following: (1) COVID remains a threat to more vulnerable populations (including senior citizens, who comprise a significant percentage of most concert audiences); (2) There has been a recent increase in cases due to new strains; (3) There remains only minimal information regarding any new risks (the science remains unclear to some degree); (4) The ventilation in the Judson Church Assembly Hall is not optimal (the space is a basement room with no windows or door leading directly outside); (5) The PVC has a moral obligation to consider the concerns of concert attendees who may be more vulnerable to COVID; and (6) the PVC Collective has already decided to increase the audience capacity for each performance.
  • Please help us! Your input matters!

Accordingly, the PVC Collective decided to ask you a few basic questions in order to be guided in its recommendation decision. Unless you wish otherwise, your responses will remain anonymous and your email address will not be stored or shared (we require it in order to account for any duplicate responses). Some responses are required by the survey system. They have a red asterisk next to them. You will not be able to SUBMIT the form without completing the required responses. When all the forms have been submitted, the responses will be aggregated and comments may be presented to the PVC Collective with the data. We do encourage you to share your thinking on the subject in addition to your direct responses to the questions. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO CLICK ON THE "SUBMIT" BUTTON WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE SURVEY. THANK YOU!
