Learning is our first priority at Chatmore. We make every effort to decrease distractions and promote a healthy community.
Cell phones are a main source of distraction for many tweens and teenagers, even though they can be a very positive tool at times.
Chatmore does not allow cell phones, bluetooth earbuds or smart watches to be used during school hours. Bluetooth headphoes are allowed but only the over-the-ear variety.
Our policy is such that these devices must be handed in at the start of the school day (at drop-off) and will be handed back to students at pick-up.
Please discuss all the below points with your child at a level that they will best understand.
As parents, we ask that you take note of the following:
1. We know that you may need to stay in contact with your child before or after school. While at school, you can contact the school phone or message or whatsapp the School Director or message or email your child's teacher.
2. Your child is here to learn. You pay tuition to ensure that your child is getting the best for them. Your support in this not only helps your child but the whole school community of learners.
3. There are consequences for inappropriate use of technology. We ask for your support in guiding your child toward appropriate use. This includes listening to and following the rules of the school through to safe searching and texting (i.e. antibullying).
HANDING IN ITEMS - Before entering the building, students will place their items in a plastic container that will be supervised by a teacher.
DURING THE DAY - If your child needs to contact you, they should notify a teacher who will contact you. Items will be stored in the office in a locked filing cabinet. Students can have access to school-supplied headphones in their classrooms if they are needed for learning purposes.
AFTER SCHOOL - Items will be available for collection at the door.
If students violate the policy:
First Offence - Items will be confiscated and students, parents will be notified and the student will have to review the policy at school with a teacher and at home with their parent. A signed form will have to be submitted.
Second Offence - The item(s) will be confiscated and held at school for the remainder of the week (or until Monday if on a Friday) and parents will be required to collect their child's item(s) on the Friday (or Monday).
If students fail to be respectful or comply with the requests or requirements, parents will be called immediately and we will address the behaviour in accordance with our Behaviour Policy.
