  • Topic :  Reading Biblical Narrative

    Date :  30 July 2026 (one Thursday)

    Time :  8.00pm to 9.30pm

    Mode : Online via ZOOM

    Synopsis:

About 43% of the Bible comes to us in the form of narrative — in stories.

Yet many of us are more used to reading Scripture as a theological textbook, a collection of moral lessons, or even a kind of “magic 8-ball” for life decisions. But if we want to read the Bible well, we need to learn to receive it in the literary form in which it has been given.

In this one-hour workshop, we will introduce a simple framework for reading biblical narrative well, especially as we prepare for a sermon series in Genesis 12 to 50.

Biblical stories are often brief, subtle, and carefully crafted. They do not always announce their meaning directly. Instead, they invite us to slow down, pay attention, and notice how meaning emerges through the story itself.

So come and learn how to read biblical stories more attentively and faithfully — not rushing to extract a lesson, but slowing down to enjoy the story, savour its details, and discover what God is revealing through it.

    Speaker’s Profile

Rev Ian Lee was appointed as a pastor to Wesley Methodist Church in August 2023, after spending two years at Regent College, where he completed a Master’s degree focusing on the Old Testament. He has a deep interest in reading the Bible as literature, helping others see that stories are not designed for us to find a quick application, but for our imaginations to be captivated.
