    Proof of Taxes Paid Directly to Another State

    South Dakota requires proof of taxes paid to another state for all purchases made less than 2 years prior to registering in South Dakota.

    We will need a copy of a bill of sale, a copy of a receipt from the state you paid taxes and a Tax Payment Verification form completed and signed by you to

    Proof of Taxes Paid Through the Dealership

    South Dakota will only credit taxes paid to another state if the date on the current title is 2 years or older.

    We will need a copy of a bill of sale showing the taxes paid. Once we have this from you, we will reach out to the dealership for an additional Out-of-State Dealer Tax Assessment that needs to be completed by the dealership.

If the vehicle was purchased at a dealership, the taxable amount would be the purchase price and anything of value to the vehicle as determined by the Minnehaha County Treasurer's Office (such as warranties and add-ons), less any trade-in allowance, as listed on the bill of sale from the dealership.

    6b2. A copy of the Tax Payment Verification Form completed and signed by you

    7a. Personalized license plate application

    7c. The plate number for the plate transfer

    7d. Special license plate for the special plate

    9. Payment to Your Best Address for the treasury estimate - see below
