It is a Government requirement that we ensure the LLN skills of our students are in line with the course they are about to undertake. Please complete the following tasks:
  • Read the following statement and answer the questions below:
    Ten-Minute Walk “Tragic Hour”

Ten minutes further down the beach and Kieron Moore could still be alive. This is the time it took for him and his family to walk away from the flagged area where they had been swimming, which was safely patrolled by Surf Lifesavers. This short walk proved to be a tragic mistake that led to the first drowning off Gold Coast beaches during the festive season. According to rescuers, it is a tragedy that could have been avoided.

Tweed Heads resident Shane Christian jumped on his surf board and headed 70m offshore to try to save Mr Moore. But by the time he reached the Toowoomba man, he was unconscious. “If tourists just learn to swim between the flags, maybe this type of thing wouldn’t happen. There should be signs warning of rips up and down the beach”.

  • Apprenticeship/Traineeship Program

  • Under an apprenticeship/traineeship program, an individual may access up to two subsidised training places through one of the following options:

    • A general qualification at certificate III and an apprenticeship/traineeship, noting that if the apprenticeship/traineeship is done first, the individual is no longer eligible to access a general qualification Career Start; or

    • Two apprenticeship/traineeships at either certificate II or III, inclduing school based apprenticeships or traineeships (SATs)

DTET may amend student eligibility requirements at any time based on factors such as budget, emerging priorities, and the need to ensure a pipeline of workers for critical occupations and improved access to job opportunities for identified priority cohorts.

For apprenticeships and traineeships, an individual must be employed as an apprentice or trainee. This pathway is part of the Australian Apprenticeships system and requires all parties to sign an Apprenticeship and Traineeship Training Contract (the Contract) as defined by the Further Education and Training Act 2014 (the Act).

Please note an individual may complete either two apprenticeships/traineeships across the suite of core programs or two apprenticeships/traineeships under this program only. However, the total number of subsidised apprenticeships/traineeships across all programs cannot exceed two per individual.

  • Under an apprenticeship/traineeship program, an individual may access:

    • One subsidised training place in either certificate IV, diploma, or advanced diploma qualification under the general training pathway; OR

    • A higher level apprenticeship/traineeship at certificate IV or above; and

    • Up to two subsidised skill sets in priority industries or sectors as part of the program

If the individual has already accessed two apprenticeships/traineeships through a school based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT) or Career Start within the last 10 years, they are not eligible to undertake an apprenticeship/traineeship under Career Boost.

DTET may amend student eligibility requirements at any time based on factors such as budget, emerging priorities, and the need to ensure a pipeline of workers for critical occupations and improved access to job opportunities for identified priority cohorts.
