Contract Agreement for EMDR Individual Consultation with Bonita Ashe, LPCC

Your reason for entering consultation directs the type of consultation activities. As you develop, you may choose to change the focus of consultation. As soon as you decide to make changes in your focus, please let me know and we will discuss the change in activities or requirements at that time.

The following clarifies expectations, the general structure of consultation, what consultees can expect of me and what is expected of you when seeking to complete 10 hours of consultation for EMDR basic training, or to become EMDRIA Certified in EMDR. I am an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and can provide all basic training hours, as well as hours earned towards certification.

What the Consultee can expect of the Consultant (for certification):

1. EMDRIA currently requires a minimum of 20 hours of consultation (at least 10 hours must be individual consultation) to apply for EMDRIA Certification. I require work samples of all 8 Phases and 3 Prongs of the standard EMDR therapy, and evidence of correcting any concerns prior to writing a recommendation letter for EMDRIA Certification.

If you use more than one Consultant in your journey toward EMDRIA Certification, I require a minimum of 5 hours of individual consultation prior to writing a recommendation letter for you to submit for EMDRIA Certification.

2. I encourage you to seek consultation from other consultants if they have a specialty area which fits your needs, but a requirement is my ability to speak with any additional CITs or ACs in order to clarify hours and endorsements. Please notify me as soon as possible if additional consultants are utilized for hours towards EMDRIA Certification. The guidance provided to you will be enhanced if you grant both consultants permission to speak to each other.

3. In order to receive a Recommended for Certification from this consultant, consultee will demonstrate proficiency and fidelity in applying the 8 Phase, 3 Pronged approach of standard EMDR therapy. This may include reading and training outside of consultation and it may involve additional consultation sessions.

The Approved Consultant maintains the right to evaluate the applicant’s performance and amount of work deemed necessary for a positive outcome.

4. In order to have the potential to receive a Recommendation for Certification from this Approved Consultant,  a consultee must have seen the Approved Consultant for at least five of the twenty hours of consultation. If, for whatever reason, the Approved Consultant is unwilling to endorse this candidate’s application for EMDRIA Certification in EMDR by providing a letter of recommendation, they will notify the applicant prior to the last two hours of consultation regarding their concerns. For consultees that are seen for less than five consultation sessions, there is no guarantee that a letter of recommendation will be provided.

5. The Consultee may withdraw from the group or individual consultation at any time with the understanding a letter may be provided to EMDRIA, documenting work completed, but not necessarily recommending them for certification. In addition, Either party may terminate this contract at any time, for any reason.

If I decide consultation no longer seems an appropriate fit or mutually beneficial, I will send you a detailed email of explanation, and a letter with your documented hours. 

6. The Approved Consultant will provide documentation of hours of consultation that the consultee has completed  with this consultant to the consultee upon conclusion of their work together; and will delay the letter, at the applicant’s request, if the Consultee and Consultant agree upon more work.

7. I will make efforts to provide a safe and supportive learning environment. Any concerns about this, when shared with me, will be addressed with you in private.

What is expected of Consultee:

1. You are expected to come prepared to present case material, complete with notes on that case.

2. Do not include any information that will identify the case you are presenting on materials you share with me.

3. You are expected to practice within the ethical guidelines of both your license and professional associations. EMDRIA states that if there is no professional association, then the APA’s code of ethics will be the standard for all EMDRIA members. It is your responsibility to stay current on both the laws and ethics applicable to them.

For EMDRIA Certification
• Examples of your clinical work are essential to the consultation process. You will need to come prepared with near verbatim transcripts or (if you prefer) video or audio recordings of your client sessions. You will need to obtain the necessary releases from clients. The verbatim/video/audio must include your words and interventions.

Please Note: If you elect to use near verbatim transcripts, I require demo sessions with another clinician twice during the certification process (once at the beginning and once toward the end of your hours). 

You will need to demonstrate proficiency and fidelity to the standard EMDR therapy protocol. Also, awareness of situations in which modifications to standard EMDR protocol are necessary, in order to safely and effectively treat the client. This may include reading and training outside of consultation.

EMDRIA Requirements for Certification

Candidates must have:

• Completed EMDR Basic Training from an EMDRIA Approved Provider
• Been practicing in their field of license for a minimum of 2 years.
• Conducted at least 50 EMDR sessions with at least 25 clients.
• Received 20 hours of consultation of which at least 10 of those hours must be individual consultation.
• Completed 12 hours of EMDRIA Approved Continuing Education in EMDR.
• Provide 1 letter of recommendation regarding candidate’s utilization of EMDR.  Letter must come from an Approved Consultant.
• Provide 2 letters of recommendation from peers or colleagues regarding your professional utilization of EMDR, ethics in practice, and professional character.

Consultation vs Supervision

Consultation is not supervision. Consultation focuses on mastery of standard EMDR therapy and integrating EMDR into your practice. You are responsible for the therapeutic relationship with your clients and competency in the modalities you offer. As a consultant, I do not hold liability for how you practice. If you are seeking consultation toward EMDRIA Certification, I will be evaluating your proficiency and fidelity in implementing the 8 Phase, 3 Pronged approach of standard EMDR therapy.

Consultation does not substitute for foundational psychotherapy skills. Should concerns in this area become evident, I may require that these concerns be remedied prior to writing a recommendation for Certification.

 
Your Approved Consultant, Bonita Ashe, LPCC values the integrity and independence of the consultee. The consultant and consultee are expected to operate within the ethical standards and scope of practice of their professional license. Consultant provides consultee-centered case consultation with the purpose of evaluating the consultee’s ability in implementing the standard EMDR therapy’s eight phase protocol, three-pronged approach. If there are concerns about the consultee’s ability, the consultant is responsible for communicating those concerns as early on in the consultation process as is possible so that appropriate corrective measures can be taken by the consultee.

 
Consultant will provide up-to-date and relevant information regarding the utilization of standard EMDR therapy with various client populations. The consultant recognizes their limits of competency and, when appropriate, will refer the consultee to another consultant who is more familiar with a specific client population.

Consultee Information

Based on the goals for consultation you have chosen, please be prepared to provide the following:

EMDRIA Basic Training or Certification

• Signed agreement (this form)
• EMDRIA Basic Training Completion Certificate (please attach here or email a copy)
• Informed consent process including EMDR therapy utilized at your place of practice (this form)
• Case presentation material for discussion (bring to each consultation)

Billing:

The cost for un-bundled services will be $75 per certification hour, and $65 basic training for a 60-minute individual consultation. If you are HAP-trained and gaining 10 hours, please contact me for a discount code. 

Cost of bundled services is $690 for 10 individual consultation hours.

Packaged vs. Un-Packaged Consultation Services:

Consultees who have paid for un-bundled consultation services rather than packaged consultation services, are doing so at the full rate, rather than packaged rate. They understand that they are only committing to one consultation session at a time and are not committed to receive all hours of their Group or Individual Consultation toward certification.

Packaged Consultation sessions must be used within 18 months of date of purchase.

 
Cancellations:

Approved Consultant requires 48 hours notice for cancellation if you are not able to attend a meeting.

Cancellations within the 48 hour window will result in being billed for the time at the above rates (including missing a group).
