    CERTIFIED TEXAS BRED REGISTRY - PRODUCTION GRANT

  • Read and follow the instructions carefully prior to submitting your application. All winners will be notified on or before the 30th of April 2024.

  • 1. To be eligible to apply for a TPPA Foundation Gilt Production Grant, an applicant must:

    1. Be an active Texas FFA or 4-H member.
    2. Be a current graduating senior.
    3. Submit the most current TPPA Foundation Gilt Production Grant Application.
    4. Have exhibited CTBR barrows and/or gilts during their FFA or 4-H career.
    5. Have PQA+ or Quality Counts Certification.

    2. The TPPA Foundation Gilt Production Grant Application must:

    1. Have all application pages completed.
    2. Contain all requested signatures.
    3. Contain no supplemental pages that are not requested.
    4. Be accompanied by the student’s official transcript for the first three and one-half (3.5) years, which is signed by a school records official (principal, counselor, registrar, etc.).
    5. Be accompanied by two letters of recommendation: one from a CTBR breeder and the second from either the applicants’ Ag science teacher or county agent.

    3. The TPPA reserves the right to verify the validity of all applicants and applications.

  • A. Leadership Positions

    List only FFA, 4-H, and high school officer positions.
  • B. Participation in FFA or 4-H team or Individual Activites

    List team participations, leadership development activities, and other activities participated as an individual or as a member of a team during your high school career. Do not include meetings, conventions, workshops, or other non-competitive activities. Do not include livestock show participations. List each activity only once.
  • C. FFA and 4-H Honors Received Above the Local Level

    List awards, recognitions, honors received as a result of FFA or 4-H Membership during your high school career. List each honor or award only once. 
  • D. School and Community Activites

    List clubs, organizations, memberships in breed associations, community service activities, etc. that you are currently involved in or have participated during your high school career. List each activity only once.
  • Livestock Show Participations

    List only the livestock shows in which you exhibited CTBR Barrows (State Fair of Texas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston and Austin barrow shows) or Gilts (Texas’ Elite Showcase) during your high school career. Include the name of the CTBR breeder for each animal exhibited. List only livestock shows that participate in the CTBR awards program.
  • Swine Project Programs

    List your swine project programs. Types of programs will include show projects, breeding projects, and market projects. List programs separately by years. List only high school project programs.
  • Essay Questions

    Provide a response to the question stated below. Essay questions can be no longer than 500 words.
  • Past History of Swine Production by the Applicant – Briefly describe your past involvement in swine production. Describe how you began, how you financed your program, years of involvement, number of  sows, type of production, etc.

    Present Status of Your Program – Briefly describe the present status of your swine production program. Describe facilities available, financing, number of sows, type of production, inventory related to production, etc.

    Plans for Future Production – Briefly describe your plans for future production, key strategies, and goals. Describe what you plan to accomplish with your swine production program.

    Production Plan – Submit a production plan to include a herd health and nutritional program. Include a breeding / weaning / sales schedule.

    Program Budget – Submit a program budget for one year to include all costs related to your swine production program. Include a projected income schedule.

  • Letters of Recommendation

    By signing this section of the production grant application, you confirm that all information submitted is accurate. In addition, you must agree to attend the Texas Pork Industry Conference IF selected as a production grant recipient.
  • I HEREBY AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING LISTED TERMS.  IF I DO NOT FULFILL THIS AGREEMENT, I WILL JEOPARDIZE THIS SCHOLARSHIP OR BE DISQUALIFIED FROM CONSIDERATION.

    1.  I have reviewed the rules and eligibility requirements of the TPPA Foundation Gilt Production Grant selection process and I am fully eligible.

    2.  I will attend the TPPA Awards Banquet on May 18, 2024 (San Marcos) to receive my award.

    3.  I will keep the TPPA fully aware of my progress while using this grant.

    4.  I understand that if any portion of this application does not adhere, or if the applicant does not adhere, to the established rules of the application, the applicant may be disqualified from consideration and selection for the TPPA Foundation Gilt Production Grant as determined by the TPPA Selection Committee.
