    • DISCOVERY PROGRAM: FOR CHILDREN 18-23 MONTHS AS OF SEPTEMBER 1, 2024.

18-23 months and will operate M-F.

Discovery, defined as gaining insight or knowledge of something previously unseen or unknown, is a major element of learning. In preschool knowledge expands as the children interact with their environment through multi-sensory experiences offered for exploration and discovery.  At this young age most experiences outside the home are still unknowns.  Even separating from parents or a beloved caretaker can be new and challenging.  The preschool emphasizes consistent, nurturing environments where children discover their ability to build new relationships.  Children gain a sense of belonging as they engage in new social encounters with teachers and peers.  Increased security produces greater engagement, which in turn leads to seeing… feeling… doing… and, ultimately, discovering.

Children under the age of two may attend a maximum of two days a week. Once children are 2 they may attend up to 5 days per week.  If you would like to reserve and pay for an additional day in anticipation of your child’s 2nd birthday, please indicate all days for which you wish to register.

Please note that the ability to change or add days is subject to availabilty.

You may use the Comments Box at the end of this form to indicate your second choice.

    • EXPLORER PROGRAM: FOR CHILDREN AGE 2, TURNING 3.  24-35 MONTHS AS OF SEPTEMBER 1, 2024.

It is our belief that children at this stage of development are driven to explore, to range over every area, push the limits, and delve into unknown territory.  They may be timid or bold but they’re fascinated and opinionated about absolutely everything that comes their way.  Our explorers are curious about the people they meet and how those people respond to them. Their visual-spatial concepts and language growth are constantly expanding. Books, stories, songs, puzzles, and movement enjoy repetition that create mastery while the introduction of new activities and new materials create challenge and focus.

    • ADVENTURE PROGRAM:  FOR CHILDREN 3 TURNING 4, 36 - 47 MONTHS AS OF SEPTEMBER 1, 2024.

Our adventurers are ready for bolder undertakings. Growing fine motor skills allow for representational creations, while an expanding self-concept and a thriving imagination allows for more complex storytelling and cooperative play.  Because children develop at different rates, it is our goal to offer creative experiences that allow for a wide variety of developmentally appropriate problem-solving opportunities.  Through the complexity of their play children encounter and meet challenges across all learning domains.  As they encounter these challenges they experience the rewards of taking a risk and the joy of learning.

2nd Language Learning Experiences are offered in Italian and Spanish.   These classes ARE 5 DAY ONLY and continue to honor children’s curiosity and competence.  The flow of the day, the materials, environment, and educational approach are the same as our other classrooms. In this language learning experience, we will continue to emphasize child-directed and play based learning.  The primary language learning strategy is based on the belief that language learning is an organic and natural process for children.  Therefore the teachers communicate in the language as they go about building the daily life of the classroom. We will also include strategies such as:  memorization of songs and interactive learning through stories and games utilizing pictures and other visual clues to guide each child in second language learning.
    • Please note Language Experience classes are for 5 day students only.

    • VOYAGER AND 2ND LANGUAGE LEARNING EXPERIENCE PROGRAM:   CHILDREN 4 - 5 years AS OF SEPTEMBER 1, 2024

These children are voyagers because this is the beginning of their long journey into formal education.  The voyage should have a strong and hopeful beginning where ideas, curiosity, and creativity are highly valued commodities and imaginations are given the time and space to soar.  Children at this stage engage in complex social understanding and their interest in justice and fairness make for engaging discussions and challenging problem solving.  While memory and skill acquirement are important, the complexity of children’s understanding must also be honored.  "Education is the not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire."  W.B. Yeats.   It is our intent that the voyagers spend their year on a journey that inspires them and lights a fire for the long voyage ahead.

Spanish language experience infuses preK curriculum with Spanish. If your child was not previously enrolled in Spanish, but you are interested in this option, you may still choose this option. Preference will be given to children previously enrolled in the 3 year old spanish experience.

Italian Experience will continue in the multi-age Italian classroom with the Italian language and culture being a part of the day.  These 2nd language learning classes continue to honor children’s curiosity and competence. The Nest classroom (our name for the 5 year old classroom) is designed as a "young 5's" program, offering children who turn 5 in the spring or summer more time to grow before entering kindergarten at another school. Experienced teachers guide children in a joyful exploration of science, nature, art, and early math and literacy skills.  If you have questions about your child's eligibility for this class please email the school director at: margaretw@freedomparkpreschool.org.
