    What is 4-H?

    Turning Youth into Well-Rounded Adults!

For over a century, 4-H Ontario has built youth into leaders in their communities and positive contributors to the world. With roots in rural Ontario, today 4-H Ontario is open to all youth, of all backgrounds, across the province.

4-H brings together youth aged 6-21 and passionate, engaged volunteer leaders to learn about selected topics through fun, hands-on activities and mentorship. There are also provincial camps, conferences, competitions and national and international travel opportunities available.

In 4-H, youth find a place they can be involved, accepted, valued and heard while developing valuable life skills in leadership, business, self-confidence and more.

AGES: Cloverbuds must be 6 as of Jan. 1st 2026, 4H members must be 9 as of Jan. 1st 2026, 9 to 21 for 4H members.

    Lanark County 4-H

All Clubs are under the same 4-H Heading, but each Club is run individually. There is no set night, time or duration.

Each Club is run by 2 screened leaders, and needs a minimum of 6 members, and 12 hours of lesson time. So this could be broken up into 6 or more meetings normally. Leaders decide when and were to host meetings, so it fits into their schedule. Sometimes you may have more than one club the same night, because each club is run by different leaders, with different schedules.

All Volunteers are screened and trained before becoming an active leader. All meeting locations are also dependent on the leaders discretion, some meetings move around the County, some are in a building, some are outside and some are on farm, or outings.

Each club completes its 12 hours of lesson time, and ends with an Achievement Program, an Achievement event could be a Fair, a Show, a Demonstration, anything showcasing the club achievements for the year. Some Achievements end in Ribbons and Trophies, others are a public display of what it means to be a 4-H member.

How the membership works, Membership fee for 2026 is $120, and this covers all clubs the member decides to do each year. Members can join several clubs during the year, ex. Beef, sheep, baking, poultry, gardening etc. The only extra fees would be club dues which could be Ingredients for baking clubs, club t-shirts, halters etc.

Cloverbuds is 1 Club, and it runs all year and is $120 for the year, it’s a bit different from 4H as it touches on several different topics during the year. (Please Confirm with the County, if Cloverbuds will be running in 2026)

Keep in Mind our Leaders are Volunteers, they do this on their time, for the joy of doing it. It is very rewarding to be a leader, but sometimes we need to remind ourselves that Volunteers do this, just because. We always welcome new leaders!
