This is consider the natural pattern of your hair strands. Hair takes on a different shape when it's wet or dry. The hair's natural patten is chemical free ( no perm or relaxer), heat free (hasn't been blow dried or flat ironed), and dry. It is possible to have different patterns through your scalp. Always go with the pattern that is the majority. NOTE: The pattern of wavy, curly, and extremely curly/coily can vary.

Determining hair length can be a challenge. To help with the process, we use everyday items for compassion. Start measurement from the base of the scalp, where the hair extends out. Use these items as reference points for measurement.

Density is the amount of hair you have on your scalp. Example, if I were to say, how dense are the trees in the backyard? It's either thick, thin, of neither(average). To give you a visual, we use trees as a reference. Like the trees, if you can see clear through the hair to the scalp, you have very thin density. Using the pictures, find which photo best resembles your hair density.

Hair texture is the diameter, length, of the individual hair strand from one side of the strand to the other. It's hard to gauge by looking with the naked eye. Grab a strand or two between the thumb and pointer fingers. Fine hair strands will feel similar to paper. Course(thick) hair strands will feel thicker than thread. If the feel of the strands is neither thick or fine, you have medium textured strands. This is a fun step to do with family or friends for comparison.

Porosity is the ability of the hair to absorb and retain moisture. Each hair strand has 2 or 3 layers, cuticle, cortex, and medulla. The top layer, the cuticle, protects all the other layers and the condition of this layer determines porosity. The top layer is similar to the shingles on a roof. If the hair strands feels rough, you have high porosity. For an easier, quick test of the strands, brush or comb hair, drop the strands that have shed into cup of water. Similar to the picture below of the eggs in a cup, if your strands float to the bottom, you have high porosity hair. If your strand stays floating at the top, you have low porosity. For average porosity, strands will remain in the middle of the cup. If you need a more depth breakdown, watch this video. https://youtu.be/pDrCZX5PTHM?si=JSC8QxsFRohPUJO_

There are 3 main types of flakes: small tiny flakes, barely noticeable. This is a normal process of dead skin cells shedding of the scalp during the development of new cells. The next two dry and oily are a concern. Dry flakes are small and white, while oily flakes are small and yellow or grayish in color. Mark yes, for dry or oily flakes.

Hair loss is different from hair breakage. Hair loss normally occurs beneath the surface of the scalp. It is possible for the hair to grow back in this state, if the source (follicle, where the hair starts) has not been completely damaged.

Hair in this condition will usually snap(break) from either a dry or oil state. The snap most often occurs a few inches from the scalp or towards the middle of the hair strand. Hair in this state will grow back.
