• 2023 USTA Adaptive Tennis Workshop

  • Welcome and Introduction

  • Hello All, The USTA Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Department and the USTA National Adaptive Tennis Committee are excited to host the USTA Adaptive Tennis Workshop on November 3rd, 2023 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

    The workshop is open to all racquet sports professionals, volunteers, teachers, parents who are interested in learning about on-court programming for adaptive tennis. Attendees of this workshop will gain valuable insights into best practices for implementing on-court modification tools and strategies, equipping them to teach players with intellectual and developmental disabilities within an inclusive tennis teaching environment.

    We will cover introductory and intermediate level curriculums and explore a range of additional topics, such as:

    • Creating a successful teaching environment
    • Recommended equipment
    • Skill progressions and regressions
    • Educating and training volunteers
    • Effective communication tips with a focus on incorporating visuals
    • Engagement strategies to promote positive behavior.

    Furthermore, USPTA and PTR racquet sports professionals who are Safe-Play approved will have the opportunity to earn continuing education credits through their workshop attendance.

    There is no registration fee to attend.

  • 11:00am - 12:30pm: Classroom Session

    12:30pm - 1:00pm: Break

    1:00pm - 2:00pm: On Court Session

    If interested, please stay on site from 3:00pm-5:00pm at the Collegiate Center to attend on court games and drills with the participants of this year's National Adaptive Championship!

    *Light food & beverage is provided, travel accommodations are not included in registration.*

  • As the national governing body for the sport of tennis in the United States, the USTA is committed to promoting safe and respectful environments for athletes to thrive in.

    Safe Play is the USTA’s comprehensive athlete safety program consisting of education, screening, reporting tools and policies for appropriate conduct in tennis. The USTA works with the U.S. Center for SafeSport and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee to develop Safe Play policies, procedures and educational resources to support the USTA Safe Play program.
