Dear [Teacher’s Name],
We appreciate you welcoming our exchange students into your classroom! I’m writing to tell you about an exciting opportunity for intercultural education on November 13 - November 17, which is International Education Week (IEW)!
IEW is a joint initiative from the U.S Department of State and U.S Department of Education promoting intercultural learning and understanding. This is a perfect time for schools to emphasize global competence: the ability to communicate across cultures and navigate cultural contexts effectively.
Would it be possible to schedule a time during or after IEW for me to come give a short presentation at your school or virtually, to share the importance of student exchange and engage students with cultural activities and study abroad opportunities? Presentations can be brief, and even just 10 minutes would be great!
Additionally, AFS-USA has developed and curated the following resources and lesson plans to help educators promote cultural exchange and peace:
· Educator Resources – lesson plans and other classroom resources looking at various subjects through an intercultural lens.
· The Global Educator Newsletter - sign up to receive a quarterly educator newsletter from AFS-USA which contains opportunities and additional resources.
I hope we can find time for a quick, insightful presentation or meeting — whatever works for you. In any case, thank you again for all you do for your students, school, and community!
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
