Thank you for being a member of the Skate Like a Girl community. Skate Like a Girl creates a more inclusive community by promoting confidence, leadership, and social justice through skateboarding.

Note, these forms will be completed annually by employees, volunteers, and board of directors, also known as “team” or “community.” Throughout this form, "supervisor" refers to Directors, the Executive Director, or Board of Directors only. Every team member is required to complete these forms regardless of role, age, location, driver's license, etc.

This policy is intended as a guideline to assist in the consistent application of Skate Like a Girl policies and programs. The policy does not create a contract implied or expressed, with any Skate Like Girl employees, who are employees at will. Further, this policy does not create an employment relationship between any volunteer and Skate Like A Girl. Skate Like a Girl reserves the right to modify this policy in whole or in part, at any time, at the discretion of the organization. 

Please note, the purpose of this driving form is to ensure you will be able to transport gear and supplies, this is NOT permission to drive youth. 

I, the undersigned, in consideration of my participation as a member of the Skate Like a Girl (“SLAG”) team (which includes employees, volunteers and board of directors), hereby agree to the following Confidentiality Agreement. 

I understand that I may be given access to confidential and/or proprietary information, to the extent necessary in order to perform my duties as a team member with SLAG. I shall not, at any time either during or subsequent to this participation with SLAG, make unauthorized disclosures or unauthorized use of any information that is considered to be proprietary or confidential by SLAG. Proprietary information includes, but is not limited to, all information, data, reports, analyses, process know-how, designs, plans, marketing data, business plans and strategies, negotiations and contracts, research, and volunteer, donor or vendor lists, compilations trade secrets, and confidential information, whether in written, oral or electronic form. Confidential information includes, but is not limited to, any personal information of any SLAG employee, volunteer, board of directors, agency partner, or donor, whether in written, oral or electronic form. 

When I cease my participation as a volunteer with SLAG, I will return all SLAG-related information and property that I have in my possession, including without limitation documents, records, manuals, information stored on a personal computer, personal data assistant or computer disk, supplies, and equipment or office supplies. 

Team members (which includes employees, volunteers, and board of directors)  may be issued property and/or be expected to use the property of a partner entity for Skate Like a Girl training, programming, and events. Team members  are expected to take proper care of such company equipment and materials. Upon end of service or termination, team members are expected to return all company property in proper working order. Failure to return equipment may be considered theft and may be reported to authorities. Team members are trusted to behave responsibly and use good judgment to conserve the resources of Skate Like a Girl. These resources including time, material, equipment, and information should be utilized for company use only. Skate Like a Girl reserves the right to monitor or review all data and information contained on company-issued equipment, with or without employee notice. The use of resources to create, access, store, print, solicit, or send any materials that are harassing, threatening, abusive, sexually explicit or otherwise offensive or inappropriate will be grounds for discipline up to and including termination. 

Theft of company property: Any team member of Skate Like a Girl who is found guilty of the theft of company property or equipment will be subjected to summary dismissal and will be required to pay for all associated costs. 

Damage of company property: Any team member who damages Skate Like a Girl property as a result of drug or alcohol consumption, unlawful activity, intentional misuse, reckless behavior, or negligence will be required to pay for all associated costs and may be subject to summary dismissal. 

Questions about the proper use of Skate Like a Girl property should be directed to your manager. 

This Code Of Conduct applies to ALL staff and volunteers of Skate Like a Girl. 

Volunteers and/or employees working in positions at Skate Like a Girl, including, but not limited to skate program or event staff, Board Members, and Youth Employment Skateboarding (YES) program members, regardless of job titles, positions, or locations, agree to the following:

The purpose of this policy is to establish Skate Like a Girl's intent to have a work environment that is free from solicitation efforts that do not relate to Skate Like a Girl business or interest.

While Skate Like a Girl actively encourages team member  participation in community activities and organizations outside of work, the time spent at work is more productive when not interrupted by solicitations and distribution of materials.

Employees/Volunteers/Directors (aka team members) may not solicit on work time (when either the employee, volunteer or the person being solicited is on work time).

Employees/Volunteers/Directors may not distribute any literature or other non-work related materials either on work time or in work areas, except as otherwise provided below.

DEFINITIONS

“Work time” is defined as that time when an employee is scheduled and expected to be properly engaged in performing his/her work tasks. “Work areas” are all areas of Skate Like a Girl except break rooms and other areas designated for non-work use.

I. SOLICITATION AT SKATE LIKE A GIRL

A. Approved:

Skate Like a Girl sponsored activities such as Skate Like a Girl's fundraising campaigns and Wheels of Fortune, or similar activities, programs and events that support the efforts of Skate Like a Girl. Soliciting participation or support for other activities, programs, and events that might further the mission of Skate Like a Girl must be approved by the Skate Like a Girl Board, before being considered an allowable activity under this policy. In addition, solicitations for approved charitable organizations outside of the Skate Like a Girl's fundraising campaign, must first be approved by the Skate Like a Girl Board.

B. Prohibited Solicitation

Unless given explicit consent by supervisor, the following are examples of prohibited activities by staff and volunteers at Skate Like a Girl during work time or in work areas:

• Charity drives

• Trips

• Sports pools

• Cosmetic or jewelry sales

• Bake sales

• Sales of items not related to Skate Like a Girl

• Food vending (other than approved by Skate Like a Girl)

• Proposing and/or procuring membership in any organization

• Proposing and/or procuring attendance and/or participation in programs or events not associated with Skate Like a Girl

• E-mail solicitations

• Commercial or personal business sales

 

Additionally, solicitation or distribution of literature by any team member for any purpose is not permitted in areas deemed

• Reception areas

• Skate Like a Girl camp, class or event locations during the time of the camp, class or event

• Other areas where distribution would disrupt Skate Like a Girl camps, classes or events

 

Employees found to be soliciting or distributing literature in violation of this policy will be subject to Performance Management. Volunteers and/or board of directors found to be soliciting or distributing literature that is disruptive to Skate Like a Girl's camps, classes or events, will be asked to stop the solicitation. If the solicitation continues, then Skate Like a Girl may sever ties with the team member.

II. SOLICITATION BY NON-SKATE LIKE A GIRL INDIVIDUALS

A. Solicitation or distribution of literature by non-employees or non-volunteers during Skate Like a Girl camps, classes or events strictly prohibited.

B. Normal business contacts with Skate Like a Girl's officials by authorized representatives are not prohibited by this policy.

C. General news and informational publications for employees, volunteers and participants may be distributed in areas that mav been designated and approved by Skate Like a Girl. For listings of designated areas that may be used for distribution you may contact Kristin Ebeling, Executive Director, Skate Like a Girl.

III. USE OF SKATE LIKE A GIRL RESOURCES FOR PERMISSIBLE POSTINGS

This policy is intended as a guideline to assist in the consistent application of Skate Like a Girl policies and programs. The policy does not create a contract implied or expressed, with any Skate Like Girl employees, who are employees at will. Further, this policy does not create an employment relationship between any volunteer and Skate Like A Girl.  Skate Like a Girl reserves the right to modify this policy in whole or in part, at any time, at the discretion of the organization.

Team members (employees, volunteers, and Board Members) are expected to maintain appropriate standards in clothing and appearance, which varies based on particular job duties. Specific policies are outlined below.  

All team members may be required to wear a face mask or covering that complies with Skate Like A Girl’s policies as well as current federal, state and local guidelines. This is dependent on the venue where staff are scheduled to work. 

All team members may be required to wear safety gear such as a buckled helmet that complies with Skate Like A Girl’s policies. Further, clothing must be worn in a manner which does not cause a safety hazard to one’s self or others especially when engaging in activities on behalf of the organization.  Example: Wrist jewelry while holding arms with someone that you are teaching to drop in.

Skate Like A Girl expects team members to refrain from wearing or cover/remove clothing, skate equipment (helmet, pads, skateboard), and/or other accessories (bags, pins, water bottles) that contain any language or images which could be deemed as offensive and/or inappropriate to any reasonable person. Skate Like a Girl team members are required to comply with requests/policies from Directors, Program Managers, and/or non-Skate Like a Girl partners whether or not onsite. Ex: Weed leaf griptape on a deck, while working at an elementary school program. 

Team members are asked to stay on top of their personal grooming and hygiene. Offensive body and mouth odors can be called into question especially when working in close proximity to participants and other team members, such as during skate camps or clinics. In addition, team members are asked to not overdo their cologne or perfume, as others may be sensitive to odors. Some coworkers, participants, volunteers, and partners may need accommodation due to a disability due to sensitivity to smells, perfumes, etc. and all team members will be asked to respect requested accommodations related to scent. 

Team members who arrive at Skate Like A Girl inappropriately dressed will be asked to change their attire. If they are not able to return in proper attire, they may be sent home. Under such circumstances, depending on the situation, employees may not be compensated for the time away from work, in accordance with state and local laws. Under such circumstances, depending on the situation, volunteers may not be allowed to log hours for their time. 

Skate Like A Girl is committed to providing equal opportunity in employment and will accommodate religious dress and grooming practices provided they do not result in an undue hardship for organization or pose a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or others.

Dress codes will not vary based on gender. All team members, including transgender and gender expansive individuals, have the right to dress in a way that corresponds with their gender identity and/or gender expression. 

Staff performing administrative duties and not representing the organization publicly: 

Tops: 

• Any tops are permissible if doing only administrative duties, so long as they do not interfere with the duties of the role

Bottoms:

• Any bottoms are permissible if doing only administrative duties, so long as they do not interfere with the duties of the role

Shoes:

• Shoes fit for all administrative duties including moving skateboarding gear, cleaning, organizing
• Sandals are permissible with socks and if work is strictly administrative (on computer) and not physical
• All shoes are permissible, so long as they do not interfere with the duties of the role

Belts:

• Belts or suspenders required when wearing pants or shorts that do not naturally stay on hips
• Any belts are permissible, so long as they do not interfere with the duties of the role

Jewelry:

• All jewelry is permissible, so long as it does not interfere with duties of the role
• All wedding rings and medic-alert bracelets are permitted
  Staff may request additional accommodation requests as needed

Hair and hair accessories:

• All colors and styles of hair and hair accessories are permissible so long as they do not interfere with duties of the role

Grooming:

• Hair must be clean and tidy
  Hands and fingernails must be clean and well-manicured
  All makeup styles are permissible

 

Staff working Skate Like a Girl programs or events, or in any way publicly representing the organization:

Tops: Skate Like a Girl shirts, sweatshirts, or jackets. 

• For employees working 2 times or less / week - Skate Like a Girl shirt
• For employees working more than twice / week - Skate Like a Girl shirt on day 1 of each program, and all other programs possible. If not wearing a Skate Like a Girl shirt, staff must be wearing a clean and professional t-shirt or tank top and a helmet, making it clear that they are a staff member. 
• Tops must reach the waistline of pants when arms are down

Bottoms:

• Option 1: pants fit for skateboarding and skate instruction that stay at hips
• Option 2: shorts fit for skateboarding and skate instruction that stay at hips
  • Shorts must be a 4" inseam or longer

Shoes:

• Shoes fit for skateboarding. Shoes can be tattered or worn due to skateboarding activity. 
• Shoes must cover the toe and heel of the foot.
• Note: Women and/or Trans Sessions, Shop Hangs, and Wheels of Fortune staff should be in Nike SB shoes. Nike SB shoes will be provided to staff by Skate Like a Girl. 

Belts:

• Belts or suspenders required for pants or shorts that do not naturally stay on hips
• Any belts are permissible, so long as they do not interfere with the duties of the role

Jewelry:

• All jewelry is permissible so long as it does not interfere with skate instruction
• All wedding rings and medic-alert bracelets are permitted
• Staff may request additional accommodation requests as needed

Hair and hair accessories:

• All colors and styles of hair and hair accessories are permissible so long as they do not interfere with skate instruction and/or wearing a helmet

Grooming:

• Hair must be clean and tidy
• Hands and fingernails must be clean and well-manicured
• All makeup styles are permissible

Protective Gear:

• Staff & volunteers under 18
  • Helmet required at all skate programs
  • Pads are always optional
• Staff & volunteers over 18
  • Helmet required at youth specific programs when standing on a board (summer camp, after school programs, youth clinics, youth outreach, etc)
  • Helmet optional at all other programs or if not standing on a board
  • Pads are always optional 

Accommodation and complaints

• Skate Like a Girl is committed to human rights, employment, health and safety and legal requirements
• Anyone with a concern about the workplace, including discrimination or harassment, or who needs accommodation relating to the dress code or other issues, can address it in the following ways, such as bringing issue to supervisor, HR Committee, or a Board Member

This Personal Relationships Policy is designed to establish guidelines so that personal relationships do not adversely affect the work environment, compromise the organization's integrity, or create conflicts of interest.

Skate Like a Girl recognizes the importance of fostering a positive and inclusive work environment that values the personal connections and relationships formed among our team members. We acknowledge that team members may already have or develop personal relationships with team members, participants and community partners. While we support such connections, it is essential to maintain professionalism and mitigate any potential conflicts of interest within the organization. It is important to us that our team members create healthy communities, ensuring that all participants, old and new, feel welcomed and included at Skate Like a Girl.

Policy Guidelines:

Definition: Personal relationships include but are not limited to dating, marriage, close friendship, roommates, or financial relationships such as sharing a car/carpool with another staff member, volunteer, participant and/or community partner.

Disclosure to Supervisor: Team members who become involved in any personal relationships are required to promptly disclose such relationships to their immediate supervisor in writing.

Relationship: Team members who are in a personal relationship shall not have a direct supervisor/supervisee relationship with each other. In such cases, arrangements shall be made to reassign one of the individuals involved to a different supervisor at the earliest possible opportunity. We acknowledge that relationships evolve over time, and Skate Like a Girl will do everything possible to take swift action as information transpires.

Site Placement: Depending on the specific needs and requirements of the Skate Like a Girl chapter, program, or site, staff members in personal relationships may or may not be allowed to work together at the same location. Decisions regarding site placement will be made by the local Director or other designated management personnel.

Professionalism: Team members involved in personal relationships must maintain professionalism at all times while at the workplace. The organization expects all team members to conduct themselves in a respectful and appropriate manner, ensuring that personal relationships do not interfere with their job responsibilities or create a hostile or uncomfortable work environment for others.

Conflict Resolution: In the event that conflicts or issues arise as a result of personal relationships between team members, Skate Like a Girl may engage in a conflict resolution process to address and do everything possible to resolve any concerns. Employees should reach out to their immediate supervisor or Human Resources Committee member to initiate this process. As leaders in the community, we encourage team members to handle their interpersonal issues outside of working hours.

Non-Retaliation: Skate Like a Girl strictly prohibits any form of retaliation against team members who report concerns related to this policy or participate in the conflict resolution process. Retaliation against any employee who discloses a personal relationship or raises concerns will be dealt with seriously and may result in disciplinary action.

Review and Updates: This policy may be reviewed and updated periodically to ensure its effectiveness and relevance. Any changes to this policy will be communicated to all team members.

By adhering to this Personal Relationships Policy, Skate Like a Girl aims to create a work environment that is inclusive, respectful, and conducive to the well-being and productivity of all staff members while recognizing and respecting their personal relationships.

We wanted to take a moment to share why we are asking the following demographics questions. 

We don’t want to make assumptions about your various identities and what makes you, you. Often opportunities arise for specific identity groups (for example: a travel scholarship for indigenous skateboarders). If we know your identities, we are better equipped to connect you with specific opportunities for your various identities, and also avoid making assumptions and/or excluding folks.

Additionally, specific grants, partnerships, and our annual report all require a report of who currently works/volunteers for Skate Like a Girl. You personally will never be individually named as your identity (example: Sally Smith is a non-binary skater) without consent, and instead, identities will be named in the aggregate (example: 75% of Skate Like a Girl’s team members self identify as queer). 

Lastly, you will be required to answer each question, but you can select that you “prefer not to say."
