Ever dreamed of having your own telescope to explore the stars? Ready to join a supportive community that loves science and technology as much as you do? Excited about becoming a junior scientist and contributing to real-life research? Do you want to gain hands-on experience with a telescope and discover fascinating insights about the universe in our interactive, family-friendly workshops?
The Science Haven is on a mission to make Stellar Dreams come true, and provide 100 telescopes and access to astronomy education and citizen science opportunities to 100 deserving students and their families.
OUR MISSION
A staggering statistic: Black people make up 13% of the US population, but only 1% of the astronomy profession. This data, among, other pieces of data speaks to the need to remove barriers to the astronomy field. We seek to close this equity gap, and others, through the Stellar Dreams program. We aspire to provide a platform that enables the next generation of stargazers and scientists to fulfill their highest potential. Click here for more information about the Stellar Dreams Program.
PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
We invite students in grades 5-12 in the USA to participate to participate in The Science Haven's Stellar Dreams program.
We have virtual programming and opportunities available to students across the country and in-person programming for students in the Buffalo New York, Los Angeles California, and Washington D.C. metropolitan areas.
Students under 18 years of age must have parental consent to participate in the Stellar Dreams program.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Participants will be selected based on their enthusiasm for astronomy and alignment with our program mission. They should also demonstrate a strong interest in learning and participation in the workshops.
We expect numerous applications to participate in our program, however, due to limited resources, only 100 students will be selected to receive a telescope.
ALL applicants, regardless of whether selected to participate in the Stellar Dreams Program, will be provided resources on ways to participate in the scientific community, and invited to attend our free public events.
