    CONTEST MECHANICS & GUIDELINES

     

     I.     The Competition
    The competition is open to couples and all dances must be danced with the same partner.  Couples will dance on recorded songs selected by the Organizers

                                                                                       

         II.  Competition Categories 

    1. Tango de Pista – Conceived as a social dance, the most important aspects are the improvisation, embrace and connection between partners. This is open to both amateur and professional dancers. This category will be done in 3 qualifying stages (Qualifying round, semi-finals and Finals
    2. Vals
    3. Milonga
    4. Salon Senior – combined age of 90 years old and above for couple

    III. Competition Procedure

    The competition will unfold IN 3 STAGES :

    1. Qualifying Round
      All couples who have officially registered will participate in the initial round. Judges will then select contestants based on scores to qualify for the next round which is the semi-finals.
    2. Semi Finals
      The couples selected in the Qualifying round will participate in this round to qualify for the finals. Semi-finalists will dance to one Tanda . The scores from each criteria will be added to qualify for the Finals. 
    3. Finals
      Couples selected from the Semi final round and have qualified for the Final round will participate in this round. For Tango de Pista category, couples will compete in groups, dancing to three recorded songs chosen by the Organizers.

    IV.Registration

    1. To be eligible to register, dance partners must be 20 years old and above and must submit a valid ID showing their age and/or birthdays.
    2. This is open to all nationalities and must present a valid ID showing proof of citizenship or residency in said country of more than one year
    3. Organizers of the competition are not allowed to join as well as jury members
    4. No one will be allowed to register two or more times in the same category, but may register in different categories, with the same or different partner
    5. A registration cannot be shared and is non transferrable
    6. No refund of the registration fees will be given to any contestant who withdraws from the competition after payment of registration fees has been made.
    7. A registration implies full knowledge and acceptance of the Contest rules  & regulations and the Criteria for Judging 
  • V.Contestants’ Briefing 

    1. All contestants who have officially registered must adhere to the date and time specified by the Organizers for the briefing with their National ID or passport for verification by the Competition Secretariat 
    2. Upon check-in, contestants will be given their Competition number  and informed of the approximate time of assembly and competitions for all rounds 
    3. Failure to attend briefing may mean disqualification from the competition
    4. Contestants will have to complete a form with their personal information, and any other additional information required by the Organizers. All information provided in the form is considered a sworn statement to be evaluated by the Competition Project officer and checked with the members of the jury/ judges to determine if any of them will be asked to refrain from judging any contest participant.
    5. Any contradiction subsequent to the signature may mean disqualification from the competition or may be penalized by the Organizers by way of subtracting points to their  scores .
    6. All championship contestants commit themselves to participate in the ceremonies and special events planned by the Organizers or may be summoned as needed for interviews or social media requirements.

  • VI.Disqualification

     

    Performing prohibited lifts

    Wearing inappropriate clothing

    Being under the influence of drugs and/or liquor

    Failure to dance in the classification round

    Indecent behavior

    Refusal to dance in the given category

    Non compliance to the rules of the competition

     

     

    VII. Judging


    Organizers will choose the judges for the competition 

    All decisions of the judges are final

    All score sheets once submitted by judges cannot be changed or altered

    Criteria established by the organizers will be the basis for judging

    All scores will be tabulated upon collation of Judges’ scoresheets by the Comptetion Secretariat, tallied and divided by no of judges to get the average score


    VIII. Criteria for Judging

    1. Musicality – couple’s musicality and improvisation are fundamental in the scores.
    2. Posture  & Connection – couples must maintain the connection at all times during the entire dance. For a position to be considered correct, the body of any of the couple must be contained at all time by the arm of the other. They may choose closed embrace, semi closed and Open embrace
    3. Walking – elegance in the style of walking, good circulation on the dance floor and other couples’ respect. The leader may invite the follower to walk, turn to their right or left, without taking steps backwards on the dancefloor.
    4. Figures - All figures must be made within the walking space allowed by the couple’s embrace. The couple may perform any commonly used figures of social tango such as barridas, sacadas, enrosques, boleos.  Jumps, lifting and figures that involves losing the contact of both feet on the floor and other choreographies similar to a stage Tango are however prohibited. Couples must move counter clockwise and may not stay in the same spot that may obstruct the circulation on the dancefloor.

     

    Other Reminders :

    • The Jury will take into account the couple’s own interpretation in different styles as fundamental to the score.
    • Outfits will not be taken into consideration during the judging, but dancers are recommended to dress smartly.
    • When choosing the outfit, hair style and make up, please be reminded that
    • Tango de Pista is a social dance not a Stage dance

    IX. Application of the Rules


     A couple’s registration implies knowledge and acceptance of all rules by each participant
