Completing this application is the first step in the process of adopting a puppy or adult dog from Caddo K9 Academy's selective breeding program. The Academy reserves the right to refuse placement at their discresion.
APPROVAL AND DEPOSIT: Applications will be reviewed within 2 business days of receipt and are processed in the order they are received. After our dogs complete their initial assessment for service work, those that are not placed with a disabled veteran or first responder will become available for adoption to the public. If your application is approved and a match is found, you will receive a notification with a request for a deposit to hold your dog. Please make this deposit within 48 hours of the approval email. By making a deposit, you commit to adopting the dog, regardless of specific preferences like color or gender.
SELECTING YOUR DOG: Dogs are matched with adopters based on the family situation, goals for the dog, and the dog's temperament and drive. We prioritize making a successful match that aligns with your lifestyle and expectations. Please reach out with any questions before finalizing your commitment.
GOING HOME: We cannot hold dogs for extended periods; timely transitions are important for their continued training and socialization. If you have significant scheduling conflicts, such as travel plans, please communicate with us. Although our dogs are better equipped for boarding than younger puppies, arrangements need to be discussed to ensure a smooth process.
CONTRACT: We require a signed contract for all adoptions to ensure clarity of our mutual obligations. The contract is thorough to address all aspects of the adoption, and we encourage you to contact us with any questions about specific terms before bringing your dog home.
SPAY/NEUTER: We prefer that dogs are not spayed or neutered before reaching 18 months, unless the dog is being adopted solely as a pet. If you have questions about the health benefits or timing, feel free to discuss this with our team.
REGISTRATION PAPERS: All purebred dogs adopted from Caddo K9 Academy come with a LIMITED AKC registration application. Limited registration means that no offspring of the dog will be eligible for AKC registration. If you intend to compete with your dog or have professional breeding plans, please contact our office to explore full registration options.
