    The HSIA has the following acculturation stress factors:

    Benefit: A self-administered, short test to assess exposure to acculturation 
                 stress for Hispanic adolelscents. Can be used in school or office settings.

    Ages: 12-17

    Administration Time: 15 minutes

    Format Individual administration: Self report

    Norms: Raw scores, scaled sub scale scores and total HSIA scores

    Publication Year: 2011

    Languages:  HSIA is available in English and Spanish

    The HSIA has 8 Sub Scales:

    Acculturation-Gap Stress: (e.g. "My parents want me to maintain customs and traditions from our home country")

    Culture and Educational Stress: ("Teachers think I am cheating when I am speaking Spanish")

    Immigration-Related Stress: ("I had to leave family members behind in my home country")

    Community and Gang-Related Stress: ("There was a lot of pressure for me to get involved in gangs")

    Discrimination Stress: ("Students made racist comments")

    Family and Drug-Related Stress: ("A family member had a drug problem")

    Family Immigration Stress: ("Family members were afraid of getting caught by immigration officials")

    Family Economic Stress: (e.g. "My family had problems paying rent")

    The HSI-2 has the following features:

    Benefit: A self-administered, short test to assess exposure to acculturation stress for Hispanic adults.
    Can be used in school or office settings.

    Ages: 18 and older

    Administration Time: 25 minutes

    Format Individual administration: Self report

    Norms: Raw scores, scaled sub scale scores and total HSI-2 scores

    Publication Year: 2016

    Languages:  HSI-2 is available in English and Spanish

    Also includes Immigrant Version and US Born Version

     

    The HSIA has 8 Sub Scales:

    Immigration-Related Stress: (9 items), includes items assessing exposure to traumatic events during immigration, fear of being deported, finding work, family separations, and limited contact with family.

    Marital Acculturation Gap Stress: (9 items), reflects conflict between spouses due to cultural differences.

    Parental Stress: (13 items) included items assessing stress related to delinquent child behavior, parental discipline, and disagreements between parents and their children related to cultural practices and traditions.

    Occupation and Economic Stress: (12 items) reflects challenges at work and problems with work I life balance.

    Marital Stress: (12 items), reflects problems in martial relationships including infidelity, conflict, and lack of respect.

    Health Stress: (8 items), includes items assessing stress related to lack of health insurance, problems paying medical bills, and lack of quality care.

    Language-Related Stress: (6 items), reflects problems with English

    Pre-Migration Stress: (6 items), stress experienced in one's home country, including poverty, lack of quality health care, and limited educational opportunities.

    Family-Related Stress: (5 items), includes items assessing conflict among family members, as well as isolation from family members.

    The HSI-2 US BORN Version has 7 Sub Scales

    Discrimination Stress: (11 items), includes items assessing perceived discrimination.

    Parental Stress: (9 items) included items related to delinquent child behavior, parental discipline, and disagreements between parents and their children related to cultural values.

    Health Stress: (6 items), includes items related to lack of health insurance, problems paying medical bills, and lack of quality care.

    Marital Stress: (10 items), reflects conflict between spouses due to cultural differences.

    Occupation Stress: (5 items) reflects challenges at work and problems with work life balance.

    Unemployment and Economic Stress: (4 items), reflects stress of economic issues and unemployment 

    Family-Related Stress: (8 items), includes items assessing conflict among family members.
