Skin Needling or Micro-Needling is a form of Collagen Induction Therapy which is intended to smooth wrinkles, improve acne scarring, stretch marks and tone and texture of the skin. The concept is based on natural collagen production within the skin when it encounters controlled injury. Your body perceives this as damage, which triggers the release of growth factors that, in turn, stimulates the production of elastin and collagen. The result is smoother, firmer, and stronger skin. Results are noticed immediately and continue over the next several weeks and months; 3-6 treatments are suggested over 3-12 months.
An electric pen with a single use, disposable needle cartridge is used to penetrate the upper layers of skin stimulating collagen formation while also providing a clear channel for topical serums to be absorbed more effectively. A numbing cream can be applied to your skin to reduce discomfort. Please talk with your aesthetician regarding lidocaine allergies.
Micro-needling creates minor trauma which lasts for 1-7 days and may initially result in minor bleeding, bruising and/or swelling in the treated area. Warmth and redness, like a sunburn is expected for 1-3 days followed by dryness and light sloughing. Use of the provided post-treatment kit and recommended skin care will help to alleviate these concerns.
You are eligible for Skin Needling if the following applies to you:
Lack of radiance, elasticity or epidermal thickness, rough and uneven skin texture, fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, hyperpigmentation, scars (acne, chicken pox, post-surgical), dullness, dryness, injection longevity, large pores and stretch marks.
You are NOT eligible if:
Active pustular acne, bacterial, viral or fungal infections, eczema and psoriasis, rosacea, keloid or raised scars, scars less than 6 months old, raised moles or warts (we may be able to just avoid this area) is present. Patients taking blood pressure, blood thinning or heart medication, diabetes, actinic(solar)keratosis, if you are on a topical skin treatment 3 days prior to this treatment, if you have used Accutane in the past year, or immunosuppressed.
