    Summer Youth Development Background:

    Peoples Gospel Church is excitingly planning our children and youth summer outreach and development with youth & children ministries from May to August 2025

    This is a strategy aiming to build a synergic team where we will match each coordinator to their mentor, while each coordinator can focus to mentor and develop a specific group of younger youths.
      
    During the summer project period, you will all be reporting to the Community Programs Director.   Together with the Director, the whole team will be reporting to the Family Pastor.

      
    Our vision is to create community building strategy to achieve a two-fold purpose of

    1. building Grade 8-12 youth team to become passionate and capable leaders to make an impact on younger children that reflects Christ's love for all people

    2. Building up children spiritually by enjoying a fun-filled Bible camp experience led by Christian youth and young adults who are dedicated to mentor them. Let the little children come to Jesus and experience His love through us. We are looking for passionate and experienced young individuals for such exciting vision and mission.

    Job Summary:

    During the job period, you are expected to join PGC Sunday services and post worship ministries so that you can fully connect and serve the community.

    As a Christian leader who has a passion to build up the next generation, you will be directed under PGC pastors and children/youth committee to learn and become mature through leading and outreaching to children and youth in summer months. 

    You will be actively interviewing youth leaders who apply as volunteers in children and youth development camps

    You will invest in children and youth's lives through the ministry of PGC, aiming to create a memorable and lasting impact to youth and children, where they feel the love and support from a vibrant community, and are encouraged to do the same as how you and your team model such passion and great character.  

     
    The purpose of this position is to equip and train an individual in the areas of leadership, planning, public speaking, youth engagement & outreach, and inter-personal skills.

    From mid-May to mid-June, you will be under direct mentorship of PGC pastors in your own spiritual growth as well the skills mentioned above. They will teach you to create and assist in various pastoral ministries where you will be coached to study, plan, to develop and to lead.  This quality work will help you to reach out to the younger youths and help them grow in the community.  

    You will be assisting in the planning and leading of weekly youth programs with youth-aged leaders. Opportunities will be given for the individual to lead sports nights, public outings, and to teach Bible lessons in the context of a youth audience. Through participating and shadowing in visitations (where appropriate), this person will also observe the personal caring side of pastoral ministry.

    From mid June to August, you will be focusing on planning and delivering a dynamic, fun-filled, leadership building camp experience for the campers.

    This position includes assisting the PGC Community Programs Director in overseeing, and organizing PGC Summer Camp. This includes but is not limited to, training and equipping camp counselors, organizing children's summer camp preparing materials, activities, and outings.

    On the following week after all camps are done, the whole youth team will do evaluation, transitioning camp to church ministry followup, as well as providing follow-up plan and guidelines for the following school year. Team bonding and fun day will also happen in this week.   

    Team leadership in Camp weeks
     
    This leadership team will invest in mentoring and shaping younger Camp Counsellors and Counsellors-in-Training (CIT) in a team setting through children's summer camp.

    Your job will be busy and requires high commitment but it will be very rewarding. The ideal candidate will be an excellent leader, a multi-tasker in planning, organization, administration, people development and communication.

    This candidate must have vibrant spiritual life and proven ministry experience or reference shown in leading children summer camp previously, shows genuine passion with proven ministry experience, both in children's ministry, and/or leading young people between ages of 13-18 so that they can enhance their spiritual development in Christ.

    Location: Markham Chinse Baptist Church (9580 Woodbine Ave, Markham, ON L6C 1H8)

     

    Pay or honorarium:

    Under Federal government CSJ criteria, the successful applicant will be paid in a range from $17.2 per hour up to $18 per hour (subjected to experience and seniority) from 30 to 40 hours per week for 13 weeks (according to the CSJ application approval). This pay is only made possible by Canada Summer Job (CSJ) funding approval under federal government.

     

    In case of no funding approval to our church, this position will become volunteer basis as in all other churches' ministries, but the church will provide an honorarium after the camp.

  • Job Description: Qualifications and Education Requirements, and Skills

    ·       A mature Christian with an authentic and vibrant relationship with God, attending church regularly and is active in ministry work.

    ·       Proven with minimum 1 year experience as a Camp Coordinator (or similar level and experience) with excellent references by previous camp supervisors  

    ·       Proven ministry experience in leading children and young people

    ·       Demonstrates maturing character of enthusiasm, politeness and cooperation

    ·       minimum post-secondary age at the start of project, college & university, and must be age 30 years old or younger (subject to Canada government CSJ application criteria)

    ·       Enjoy being with children and youth, patient and be able to serve as a positive role model and mentor

    ·     Must abide to Plan to Protect® training, prevention and protocol for a safe and zero tolerance to bully and abuse environment

    ·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    ·       A strong team player that demonstrates good relationships to team members of different age in existing ministry

    ·       Ability to set work priorities, good time management, organized habits and work-time flexibility.

    ·       Communicating tools with visual arts and using social media by designing flyers, posters, short video clips for promotion and communicating purposes

    ·       Excellent interpersonal skills (able to prevent and handle conflicts or undesirable situation)

    ·       Preferred skills: digital online meeting platforms, graphic and video editing and production experience

    ·       Spoken Cantonese and/or Mandarin an asset

    ·       Mandatory Police Vulnerable Sector Check clearance prior to commencement of the employment

    Roles and Responsibilities

    Under your mentor and supervisors, you will be planning, organizing, supervising and delivering a dynamic and fun-filled and leadership building project and camp experience for the next generation.

    You will lead your team to achieve our youth and children's goal for the summer. You will model your passion and excellence in a Christian nurture and setting by

    1. ensure the young leaders serve with the intention to invest and bless children's well-being through the camp

    2. Shining for Jesus in the community by blessing the community through blessing the families and children involved, and coordinating volunteers in the project.

    3. Assist the Community Programs Director in the process of registration, execution, collecting feedback and planning of post-camp ministry or follow-up

    4. Keeping the Community Programs Director updated on the progress of planning and implementing the camp and informed him or her of any urgent matters

    5. Aim to set up and achieve a high standard for mental, emotional and social well beings of all youth and children

    This is an ongoing project in Peoples Gospel Church. There are lots of creativity and flexibility and fun. Yet, this aims to set a good foundation for the future endeavors for children and their families in the community.

    During children's camp. One of you will act as the Chief camp coordinator. This person will directly report to Community Programs Director.  S/he will

    • Oversee planning of overall program with detail schedule, database, communication network, and,
    • Give guidance, directions and tasks to the Vice(s), and in return receives reporting from Vice Coordinator, Counsellors and Counsellors in training
    • Give active and immediate feedback to the team
    • The Vice(s) and assistant to the Chief who will
    • Prepare the master planning and execute the VBS curriculum and program
    • Directly report to the Chief
    • Oversee and focus on administrative details of the program by arranging roles & responsibilities, tasks and deadlines to the youth team
    • Give active and immediate feedback to the team
    • Organize filing and recording
    • All Coordinators, however, are working together under the Director to:
      Adhering and keeping health and safety of campers according to all relevant church policies and procedures, such as but not limited to, incident report.
    • Attending all required training programs, Plan-to-Protect®, counsellor’s orientation, program training, and team-building sessions.
    • Pioneer an in-person camp program from scratch as a new project in PGC
    • Plan, analyze the VBS curriculum to devise camp schedules, plan activities of summer camp to produce a healthy, educational, community building experience for needs of children and youth
    • Connect with community especially church leaders to devise way of how to help children also contribute to their community.
    • Organize manpower with positive and clear communications to the whole team
    • Be a great model to team supervising all the youth, to plan and lead children program with community and character building in mind.
    • Take turn to lead morning devotions for team
    • Lead daily briefing and debriefing to all team members
    • Devise a creative and solid plan to reach out to Parents and Campers before, during, and after the camp, which includes a post-camp worship celebration in PGC, or any creative follow-up to campers.
    • Prepare Tax Return Receipt for all registrants.
    • Implement and monitor the camp, give evaluation reports and be evaluated for the team and program on a daily basis
    • Follow safety and emergency procedures and guidelines
    • Prepare final evaluation report
    • Perform exit interviews for team members
    • Visioning a goal beyond the summer-camp by creatively extending and connecting the campers and team to the church community resources.

    Note: If only one coordinator can be hired for the project, we may adjust the roles and responsibilities of the Director and Coordinator according to the camp’s need.
