Background:
The Graduate Environmental Training Scheme (GETS) is designed to support the development of environmental graduates and connect them with experienced mentors, tutors, and supervisors. Supervisors and tutors play a vital role in guiding graduate members through their training period.
Role and Expected Work:
Selection Criteria and Expectations for Tutors:
Definition: Tutors, selected from graduate members' direct managers, adapt to dynamic roles, engaging in monthly meetings to assess progress, offering feedback, and ensuring rigorous training objectives. Prospective tutors need 5 years of environmental experience.
Selection Criteria
- Tutors are selected from the direct managers of the graduate members, preferably within the same office or department.
- Prospective tutors should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a specific environmental field to ensure they bring substantial expertise to the mentorship role.
Expectations
- Given the dynamic nature of the graduate members' positions, tutors will be changed accordingly when graduate members transition to new roles or fields of work.
- Actively collaborating with graduate members to facilitate their development within the environmental profession is a key responsibility of tutors.
- Tutors are expected to engage in regular monthly meetings with graduate members, focusing on assessing their monthly reports, providing constructive feedback, and ensuring the rigorous achievement of their training objectives.
Selection Criteria and Expectations for Supervisors:
Definition: Supervisors, recruited publicly, guide and support graduate members over 3 years, sharing experiences, imparting knowledge, and endorsing training outcomes. They conduct quarterly one-to-one meetings and hold a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
Selection Criteria
- Supervisors are recruited from the same organization as the graduate members through a public selection process.
- A supervisor is required to be a Fellow or Professional Member of HKIQEP, ensuring they possess the necessary expertise to effectively guide graduate members.
- Importantly, supervisors should possess a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience, equipping them with the necessary skills to provide effective guidance and oversight.
Expectations
- Playing a pivotal role, supervisors continuously guide and support graduate members throughout their 3-year training journey.
- Responsibilities include sharing professional experiences, imparting knowledge, and actively participating in the development of essential skills for success.
- In addition to mentoring, supervisors are entrusted with evaluating and endorsing training outcomes as graduate members progress in their journey.
- To ensure an in-depth mentorship and assessment process, supervisors are expected to conduct quarterly one-to-one meetings with graduate members.
