    Fill out the form carefully and completely.
  • Students that are in the Special Education program must have an IEP held before they can be admitted into the Virtual Learning Academy. It will be a team decision on whether or not the change of placement into VLA is appropriate.

    By signing the box below, I acknolwdged that I will work with my home school to set up an IEP meeting in order to get change of placement approval for my child to attend the Virtual Learnign Academy.

    These questions are to be answered by the student applying to the Virtual Learning Academy. If the child is in grades 1-5, the parent may type this for them, but the answers need to from the student.
  • Virtual Learning Academy Parent Responsibilities

    In order for our online students to be successful, the parents/guardians/adults working with the students should display the following characteristics.
  • Please read each statement and intial next the statement. By intialing the statements you are taking responsibility for helping our Virtual student to be successful in online classes. You are also willing to do the actions below to help our student.

  • *I understand my student's classes will primarily be online but there will times that face to face is required.
    *I understand attendance is mandatory and will be taken every day for each class period. If my student cannot attend, you will need to notify the teacher
    and the VLA office of the absence. Elementary students must attend all zoom meetings per day. For secondary the students have to spend 30 minutes a day per subject in order to be counted present.
    * I will download the Canvas Parent app to track students' progress and communicate with teachers.
    * I will have access to Parent Vu through LCPS to see attendance, grades and receive messages from teachers regarding student progress.
    * my student is able to work independently with little direction.
    * my student has good time management skills and can schedule specific times throughout the week to work on online courses.
    * my student is not a procrastinator-likes to get things done today and not tomorrow.
    * my student is a self-motivated and self-disciplined individual.
    * my student is an average to above average reader.
    * my student is comfortable spending five plus hours each week on each. Canvas to review lectures/videos, complete course assignments, participate in chats and threaded discussions, etc.
    *I understand the district has an equitable grading policy and my student will be given a 40% as their lowest grade. Those are equivalent to a 0%.
    *my student has basic computer skills and can use word processing software, download software and files, install software, open files, use a web browser, and is familiar with Canvas, etc.
    *my student has access to a computer that is connected to the internet and has a backup plan if something happens to the computer and/or internet access.

    * Other responsibilities that you as the parent might have are:

    1. Attending parent orientation
    2. Providing student with regular (daily) access to a distraction-free learning environment
    3. Ensuring access to adequate technology and internet connection
    4. Ensuring that student attends weekly face-to-face when required 
    5. Providing ongoing support (up to 6 hours daily) that includes
      1. Supporting student use of course tools and common applications (word processor, presentations, etc.)
      2. Ensuring that student understands instructions
      3. Monitoring order and pacing of assignments
      4. Monitoring grades
      5. Monitoring daily progress
    6. Assisting student in their communications with eTeacher
    7. Communicating concerns regarding student academic progress, etc. with eTeacher and/or VLA Administration

    In order for our students to be successful in Virtual Learning Academy they will need to understand the following.
  • Please read each statement and the applying students intial next the statement. By intialing the statements you are achknolewding that to be a successful Virtual student requires the following.

  • *I commit to being a self-motivated, engaged, respectful, and courteous student while in Virtual Learning Academy
    I understand that online attendance is important to my success in this course and commit to spending 3-6 hours per day five or more times per week.
    I will not copy or plagiarize information from the internet, textbooks, other students, or any other resources in order to complete my assignments.
     I understand that cheating and plagiarism are serious offenses and that my school will determine the consequences, which could include failing the course.
    I understand that my school or eTeacher may contact my parent or guardian at any time if there are any concerns about my progress
    I understand that it is my responsibility to seek help when needed. If I do not understand a lesson resource or assignment, I should message my e-Teacher for further instruction and also communicate with my learning coach.
    I understand that I will receive 40% for any assignment(s) that are not completed.
