Welcome to the Otoe County Democrats' Scholarship application! We are excited to offer this opportunity to outstanding students like you who are committed to their educational and career pursuits. We firmly believe in the power of education and the positive impact it can have on individuals, communities, and society as a whole.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be a senior in the 2026 graduating class at a public school within Otoe County, Nebraska. This scholarship will provide $500 towards higher education for the 2026 - 2027 academic year. 

The scholarship application deadline is April 1st, 2026

While academic performance is a factor in the consideration for this scholarship, the primary focus will be on your engagement in extracurricular activities, dedication to volunteerism, active participation in the community, and your written response to the short essay prompt. The essay prompt will center on themes related to democracy and civics. Additionally, we require two letters of recommendation as part of your application.

We encourage you to take your time, provide comprehensive responses, and showcase the best of who you are and what you aspire to be. It is important that you follow the application guidelines and submit all required documents by the specified deadline.

You are required to submit two letters of recommendation. These letters should be from individuals who can attest to your character. References cannot be family members. Ideal references may include current or former teachers, employers, mentors, or community leaders who are familiar with your academic or extracurricular achievements, work ethic, and personal qualities.

Submission Process: Your references can submit their letters via email or snail mail. 

Emailed letters should be sent to otoecountydemocrats@gmail.com

Mailed letters should be addressed to the Scholarship Committee and mailed to PO Box 11, Syracuse NE 68466

References should address the following points in their letters:

- Their relationship to you and how long they have known you.
- Specific examples of your academic achievements, leadership qualities, and any relevant accomplishments.
- A description of your character, work ethic, and any exceptional personal attributes.
- Their perspective on why you are a deserving candidate for the scholarship and how it aligns with your academic and career goals.

All letters of recommendation must be received by April 1st, 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted.

After the application deadline has passed, our scholarship committee will review all applications to ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria. All applicants will be notified of the scholarship committee's decision via email. You can expect to receive one of the following notifications:

Scholarship Award: If you are selected as a scholarship recipient, you will receive an email notifying you of your success. This email will provide further instructions on the disbursement of the scholarship funds.

Regret Notification: If your application is not selected, you will also receive an email informing you of the committee's decision. We appreciate your dedication and encourage you to continue your pursuit of education and other opportunities.

Notification emails regarding the scholarship results are anticipated to be sent out by June 1st, 2026. Please keep an eye on your email inbox (including the spam folder) during this period.
