  • Changing Lives Activity Grant

    Are you wanting to pursue a long-held passion and explore new horizons, but are facing financial hurdles? You’re in luck because the solution is here to empower you to achieve your goals! 

    At Award Canada, we believe that all young people participating in the Award should have the opportunity to follow their passion or try new activities, irrespective of economic circumstances. Thanks to our generous partners at the McCall MacBain Foundation, we’re thrilled to offer the ‘Changing Lives Activity Grant.’ 

    Participants: Young people participating in the Award may apply to receive up to $750 in funding, to support an activity they wish to use for their Award and for which there may be a financial barrier. This grant can be used for any section of the Award with a focus on deepening a participants leadership skill by taking part in or establishing an activity that has the ability to change their or other people lives. To be eligible, participants must be actively engaged in Award activities. 

    Award Centres: Award Centres are eligible for up to $2500 in support. Please note that this grant is exclusively allocated for Award-related activities and cannot be used for general operations.   

    If approved, all applicants will need to share an Award in Action story and photos that demonstrates the impact of the activity on their personal development.

    Where a group’s application is approved, the individual participants must submit Award in Action stories that demonstrate the impact of the activity on their personal development and the Award Leader must submit an Award in Action story and pictures that demonstrates the impact of the activity has had on the group and the Award Centre.


    Please note: This grant cannot be used for Award registration fees and can only be used for activities that support the Award level for which participants are registered.

    Please note that it may take up to 6 weeks for the reviewing committee to make their decision.

  • Award Centres are eligible for up to $2500 in support. Please note this grant is for Award participants only and cannot be used for general activities except where all funding is directed to those who are Award participants.

  • Your organization has a responsibility to ensure that activities directly managed by your Award team are operated in a safe environment. It is mandatory that you carry out and document thorough risk assessments for any and all activities that may expose your participants to potential risk, and then develop appropriate risk management controls.

  • Grant Payment Information

    If approved, the money will be sent by e-transfer.
  • Reporting

  • Upon approval of the grant, recipients are required to submit an Award in Action story within two weeks of the conclusion of the activity for which the grant was approved. This submission must include:

    • A description of the activity funded by the grant.
    • Details about how the grant impacted the success or outcomes of the activity.
    • Any challenges faced and how they were overcome.
    • Personal anecdotes or testimonials from participant or participants demonstrating the impact of the activity on their lives.
    • Future plans or initiatives inspired by the activity
    • Accompanying photos/videos illustrating the grant's impact on the success of the activity.

    Furthermore, it is mandatory to acknowledge the support of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Canada and the McCall MacBain Foundation in all related social media posts or materials.

    Non-compliance may result in forfeiture of the grant!
