Youth Policy Council Leadership Retreat - 2024 Code of Conduct
The Los Angeles YouthBuild Collaborative expects all YouthBuild participants and all YouthBuild staff to conduct themselves in the utmost professional manner for the good and well-being of other participants—so that each individual may gain the most from their experience at this year’s Youth Leadership Retreat.
The following are POSITIVE LEADERSHIP behaviors:
- Communicating with respect to everyone
- Listening to staff and volunteers
- Staying within the boundaries of the event
- Meeting new people
- Having fun!
The following are UNACCEPTABLE behaviors that students and staff will be removed from the conference for:
- Illegal drug use or possession
- Use of Marijuana or tobacco vapes
- Drinking or possession of alcohol
- Stealing, fighting, or threatening others
- Sexual Harassment: verbal or physical, unwanted advancements including inappropriate and unwanted touch
- Possession of weapons or use of items as weapons for the purpose of threatening or inflicting harm on others
Any UNACCEPTABLE behavior will be brought to the attention of the Accountability Team and program staff.
Expectations:
The Youth Leadership Retreat is a privileged opportunity for select YouthBuild participants to represent their program with YouthBuild participants from other agencies and grow in their leadership skills.
All staff and participants will depend on you to adhere to the following expectations:
Appropriate Attire:
- Jeans (without rips, holes, etc.; designs are allowed)
- Collared shirts
- Khakis
- Slacks
- Skirts (must be at knee length or longer)
- Blouses
- Ties
Unacceptable Attire:
- Tank tops or tube tops
- Clothing that shows bare skin of the stomach or hips
- See-through or sheer clothing items
- Clothing with the AmeriCorps logo
Conduct:
You are expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner when on duty and at any time while wearing your YouthBuild uniform.
This opportunity is a privilege, so you are expected to fully participate in all activities, be attentive, cooperate with all YouthBuild staff, maintain a positive attitude, abstain from participating in negative conversation/behaviors, and adhere fully to YouthBuild policies.
This includes being ON TIME and respecting break times. The staff facilitators are committed to providing an environment free of harassment. This strictly prohibits sexual harassment and harassment because of race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, disability, medical condition, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, age or any other basis protected by federal, state or local law.
Alcohol/Drug Use:
Drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, cigarettes, or vaping, or taking any other illegal drugs during this event is strictly prohibited. If you are caught partaking in any of these activities, you will be separated from your YouthBuild program.
Gang Activity:
Refrain from any gang-associated activity at all times during the trip.
Cell Phone/Technology:
Abstain from utilizing personal communication devices (cell phones, earphones, technology, etc.) during this event.
Smoking Policy:
Smoking is strictly prohibited while YouthBuild Participants are in uniform or otherwise acting on behalf of or representing the YouthBuild Policy Committee. This policy will be in effect during the entire event.
Consequences:
Failure to adhere to any of the above-mentioned policies is serious; accountability actions will be administered by program staff, could include immediate dismissal from the event AND recommended for separation from your YouthBuild Program.
