The Believer Grant is available to high school freshman, sophomore, and junior status students who have excelled academically and participated extensively in an organized tennis program (such as USTA National Junior Tennis League (NJTL), USTA Junior Team Tennis, high school tennis, USTA High Performance or other such qualified programs as determined by the Scholarship Committee). Applicants must demonstrate tennis achievements and aspirations, as well as sportsmanship on and off the tennis court.
These grants will be awarded annually to two (2) players from Louisiana who demonstrate financial need.
Grant Details
Eligible:
- Full Time High School freshman, sophomore, and junior; Louisiana residents
- Amount: Two (2) scholarships at $500
Minimum Criteria for Selection:
- Current Louisiana resident
- High School freshman - junior status
- Current Transcript
- Demonstration of financial need
- Current member of the USTA
- Active tennis player who has been involved in tennis activities, examples include but are not limited to:
- Competed in USTA-sanctioned tournaments (i.e., is ranked in the top 500 in USTA Southern)
- Played on a high school team for at least two (2) years,
- Played Junior Team Tennis
- Participated in an NJTL program for at least two (2) years
The EDI Scholarship Committee uses the following criteria in its selection:
- Tennis participation & accomplishments are the main criteria
- Financial need
- Grade Point Average (cumulative)
- Extracurricular activities
- Essay
