Self-Guided Field Trip Request

Duke Farms is committed to offering access to nature for all.

Please note, after approval of this request, you'll be directed to select an available date for your trip.

Our café cannot accommodate school groups, and we are unable to store or refrigerate lunches. Students are welcome to eat outside, but please note that picnic tables are very limited.

The Visitor Center has minimal information and should not be a main attraction to your visit. Your field trip should be primarily outdoors, giving your students an opportunity to connect with nature. 

Field Trip Guidelines

• Duke Farms is, first and foremost, preserved habitat for native plants and animals. Care and preparation should be taken when exploring. Hazards such as open waterways, roadways with bicycles, poison ivy, and stinging and biting insects are present. Precaution should be taken to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, dehydration, and other potential hazards.
• Adults are responsible for the minors in their care, and students must be accompanied by a supervising adult at all times regardless of their age.
• This is a carry-in, carry-out facility, and all garbage created during your program must be taken back with you. 
• School Groups visiting Duke Farms for a self-guided field trip may do so at no cost. 
• Self-guided field trips to Duke Farms are free, however, we require you register at least two weeks prior to your visit. Priority will be given to local schools from Somerset, Middlesex, Mercer, Morris, and Hunterdon counties in an effort to reduce emissions and better connect students with their local environment.
• Self-guided field trips are independent. There will not be a staff member joining you. Please make sure you are well prepared.
