    Daniel Lee Tijerina & Arturo O. Naranjo, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

  • The Friends of the Taft City Parks will award 2 scholarships in memory of Daniel Lee Tijerina & Arturo O. Naranjo, Jr. Their time and dedication to our organization and community will be forever remembered. They were friends, leaders, and role models to all the children who participated in our programs. We want to honor that spirit of giving back to the community by awarding 2 scholarships in their memory to students who exemplify those qualities and strive to make a difference in the community. Scholarships will be based on a comprehensive process. Areas that will be reviewed by the Board of Trustees include but not limited to the following: Academics and Community Service. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the applicant.

    Criteria: 

    • Applicants must volunteer with the Friends of the Taft City Parks a minimum of 30 hours.  Applicants will be responsible of recording and submitting proof of volunteer hours.
    • Applicants must be completing or have completed high school successfully with a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
    • Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student at a college, university, or trade school program for the upcoming academic semester before scholarship award will be issued.
    • Applicants must complete and submit scholarship application by Friday, May 1, 2026.

     

    Timeline: 

    • Applications are due May 1, 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. 
    • Applicants will be notified if awarded a scholarship by June 5, 2026, by phone, email or announced at the Taft ISD Awards Assembly. 

     

    Scholarship Applicants must provide: 

    • A completed application form typed or legibly printed.
    • Official high school transcript in a sealed envelope from the institution.
    • A letter of acceptance from a college, university and/or a vocational, technical school.
    • Minimum 30 hours of Community Service with The Friends of Taft City Parks before May 1, 2026. Applicants will be responsible of recording and submitting proof of volunteer hours.
