• Collegiate Discussion Meet

    Just like the Young Farmers & Ranchers (Young Ag Professionals) Discussion Meet, the Collegiate Discussion Meet competition is designed to simulate a committee meeting where each participant is expected to actively contribute to the discussion. Collegiate Discussion Meet competitors prepare answers to the same five questions that the American Farm Bureau Federation uses for the Young Farmers & Ranchers Discussion Meet at the AFBF National Convention. All active Collegiate Farm Bureau members between the ages of 18 - 25 are eligible to participate in the competition.

  • Contest Overview

    Applications are due by Friday, November 6th. Contestants will participate in a 4- person panel discussion with other members from the CFB chapters. We will hold a Preliminary Round on November 18th to determine who will advance to the final round of the Discussion Meet on January 14th. The final four competition will be held in Columbus at the Ohio Farm Bureau state office. The contestant with the highest score will be named the state collegiate discussion meet winner and they will advance to the national competition.

  • September 1, 2026 - Application Opened

    October 21, 2026 - Virtual Info Session

    November 6, 2026 - Applications Due

    November 18, 2026 - Preliminary Round

    January 14, 2027 - Final Round

    March 12-15, 2027 - YF&R National Competition - New Orleans, LA

     

    Preliminary Round Questions:

    1. Rural and large animal veterinary practices and professionals continue to decrease in numbers across the country. How can Farm Bureau help attract and retain rural and large animal veterinarians for member communities?

    2. Increased public concern over healthy diets and chronic childhood disease has raised questions, as well as criticism, about modern agriculture and the food system. How can Farm Bureau effectively engage in this discussion and advocate for the critical science-based tools and research farmers need to fulfill their commitment to grow healthy, sustainable food, fiber and fuel?

     

    Final Round Question:

    1. With the continued ripple effect of supply chain challenges related to meat processing, how can Farm Bureau leverage its grassroots network to reduce barriers and create pathways for the development of local USDA certified meat processing?

  • Prize

    The winner of the Ohio Farm Bureau Collegiate Discussion Meet will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship and will compete in the national Collegiate Discussion Meet at the annual Young Farmers & Ranchers FUSION Conference. The 2027 conference is scheduled to be held in New Orleans, LA March 12-15, 2027. Additional information will be shared as it is available.
