  • We are not anti-hunting.

    We are not anti-hunting.

We are anti-noise, and we need something done about it now.
  • Dear DEEP Commissioner Katie S. Dykes, Senator Martha Marx, Senator Norman Needleman, Representative Devin Carney, and Old Saybrook First Selectman Carl P. Fortuna, Jr.,

  • We are a group of citizens in and around Old Saybrook who live near areas where duck hunting is allowed. We are greatly disturbed by the continuous noise that is a result of duck hunting especially in the early morning hours. The current laws that allow hunting to begin one half hour before dawn, and only 250 feet from an occupied structure, is making life miserable for us 90 days a year.

  • We believe a cherished tradition and sport for a few should not disrupt an entire community, and we believe a compromise between residents and Connecticut hunters can be and must be achieved.

  • We are requesting that our state representatives, local leaders, and DEEP work together to restore and defend our right to a good night sleep and peaceful awakenings by changing the allowable start time of hunting in South Cove to no earlier than 7:30 am, and changing the allowable firing distance from an occupied structure to no less than 500 yards, and limiting the number of hunters that can be in a cove at one time.

  • We, the undersigned, call on you, DEEP Commissioner Katie S. Dykes, Senator Martha Marx, Senator Norman Needleman, Representative Devin Carney, and Carl P. Fortuna, Jr., to get together and make this happen. We call on you to make a real and lasting difference in restoring the quality of our lives during duck hunting season.
