  • Storefronts Grants Assistance Program

The Storefront Assistance Program is a feature of the business development services offered by OED. It is a program in which the City of San Jose budgets $500,000 of funds each fiscal year to go toward grants for small businesses that are interested in upgrading their sidewalk visuals. There are two types of grants available - Vacant Storefront grants that provide reduced permit costs, and Exterior Storefront grants that provide reimbursement for fees, permits and materials, fixtures, signage, etc.  These grants not only alleviate costs for local businesses but help promote economic development in the city by driving retail activity.
  • Disclaimer Regarding Vacant Grant Approval

To qualify for a vacant grant, please read the information in the parenthesis. The property must have been vacant for at least three months before you moved in, and the lease must have started in the current calendar year that you are applying for.
