Now that we have formed a union, WSU has a legal requirement under WA state law to bargain with us as equals. We can both propose improvements to our working conditions as well as to codify existing protections. These Initial Bargaining demands are a comprehensive list of topics that we intend to raise at bargaining to communicate Union priorities. The demands are intentionally broad; once elected, the bargaining committee will craft more specific proposal language using data from our detailed bargaining survey. If you are interested in working on developing or distributing the survey, please contact info@pduuaw.org! For some examples of Initial Bargaining Demands used in successful postdoc bargaining campaigns, check out the demands from UW and UC postdocs.
What we can win in bargaining will come down to our collective coordination and power, and signing on to the demands is a quick but very important step toward strengthening our majority!
