Walk with Words is an interactive walking route connecting Colchester City Centre, the University of Essex, and Greenstead. Arranged on 16 posts, a QR code geo-locates content, offering walkers a diverse mix of materials inspired by the journey - contributed by the community and curated from existing pieces.

Walk With Words is more than a trail, it's an exchange of stories, an exploration of imagination, and a discovery of place. It is a digital memory bank showcasing creative content designed to immerse walkers in the present moment and foster a connection to their surroundings. It offers an invitation for individuals to share their voices and listen to their neighbours. This evolving compilation mirrors the ever-changing community and landscape it inhabits.

Walk With Words has no beginning, middle, or end - it's a journey without a destination.

Submit to us!

We’re inviting you to take inspiration from any moment on walk or the surrounding area to create content under the 2024 theme of ‘Memories’. The route can be found on the map below, with the 16 locations highlighted. Submissions could be in the form of, but are not limited to, poems, riddles, local advice, anecdotes, short stories, photography with captions, short films or spoken word.

 

 
Submission Requirements

 - Content to be related to moments on the walk/ Colchester

- Content to be under the theme of ‘Memories’.

- Minimum Photo resolution of 3600px at 72dpi, please ensure images are JPEGs. 

- Film/ Audio Time Limit of 1 minute. Any spoken word in film pieces must be subtitled. 

- Spoken word within film or audio content must be accompanied with a written transcript. 

- Word Limit of 250 words for written pieces, please ensure written entries are text files.
