  • Chemical Peel Contraindications

    (please do not book if the following apply to you):

    - Accutane (within the last 12 months)
    - Pregnancy & Breastfeeding (No Salicylic Acid, Retinol or TCA Peels - *physician consent for AHA Peels under 30%)
    - Currently undergoing Cancer Treatments including Chemotherapy or Radiation
    - Cancer/Skin Cancer History - minimum 2 years in remission -*physician consent required
    - Sunburn/Blisters
    - Excessive sun exposure or tanning or those unwilling to wear SPF
    - Open Sores/Wounds - *exception is active acne
    - Aspirin Allergy, Heart Conditions & Kidney Conditions - Salicylic Acid & Jessner's Peels
    - Active cold sores
    - Some autoimmune diseases
    - Recent facial surgical procedures
    - Fitzpatrick 4-6 for Salicylic Acid & Jessner's Peels

    The following are precautions to chemical peels:

    - Retin-A - must discontinue use for 7 days prior to the treatment and avoid use for 7 days after the treatment
    - Non-prescription Retinol & AHAs - discontinue use 3-5 days prior to the treatment
    - No Cosmetic Injections (including Botox and Fillers) within the last 14 days or wait 10-14 days post chemical peel treatment
    - Rosacea - *varying factors including severity of Rosacea and chosen chemical peel (AHA peels under 30%)

     

    Chemical Peel Post Care

    Following chemical peel treatments, it is important that post-peel guidelines are followed to promote healing and prevent any complications.

    The following are recommendations on post-peel care:

    After All Depths of Chemical Peels:
    - MUST WEAR SPF EVERY DAY!!!
    - Avoid all sun exposure or as minimal as possible
    - Avoid exercise or sweating for a minimum of 24-72 hours
    - Avoid applying makeup for 24-72 hours and wash makeup brushes before next use
    - Always wash hands before completing the routine
    - Avoid touching the skin
    - Avoid active ingredients for 3-5 days post-treatment or for more advanced peels, once peeling has completed


    Key ingredients for home care routines:
    Tyrosinase Inhibitors
    Ceramides, Peptides & Fatty Acids
    Semi-occlusive or occlusive agents (medium depth peels)
    Antioxidants including Vitamin C
    Hyaluronic Acid
    Sun Protection
