Beginning farmers and ranchers in California face many challenges in sustaining their agricultural operations. This program provides no-cost mentoring services from experienced farmers and ranchers to facilitate knowledge transfer.

Who can enroll as a Mentor?

Farmers (including specialty crop growers) and/or ranchers with greater than 10 years of experience operating an agricultural production business in California can enroll as Mentors.

Mentors are expected to provide up to 6 hours of mentorship services to a beginning farmer and/or rancher over the course of 1-year.

Mentors will be paid at a rate of $50/hour for up to 6-hours per Mentee.

Who can enroll as a Mentee?

Farmers (including specialty crop growers) and/or ranchers with 1 to 10 years of experience operating an agricultural production business in California can enroll as Mentees.

Mentees will receive additional no-cost educational resources, including: Biannual workshops alongside subject matter experts and peers; an annual subscription to AgAlert and Farm Bureau Extension.

Funding for this Project was made possible by a grant/cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service and National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
