Position Overview
CNC Machine Operators are critical to the success of Base Lab Tools and serve a vital role in the company’s mission to provide custom and standard machined products to the scientists, researchers and businesses we serve. As a machinist you will be expected to:
- Set up and operate CNC machines to perform precision machining operations
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings
- Monitor machine operations to ensure quality control standards are met
- Make adjustments to machine settings as necessary to achieve desired results
- Inspect finished products for accuracy and adherence to specifications
- Perform routine maintenance on machines to ensure optimal performance keeping them like new
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during production
- Follow standard operating procedures and suggest improvements for further investigation
- Help, train, audit and direct Machine Shop Assistants
The right candidate must have the following traits:
- An interest in science, as scientists and researchers are our customers
- A passion for making things. You have to be the kind of person who enjoys starting with a block of metal and turning it into a finished part. A part that may be critical in testing a self-driving car, or used in a lab that is working on a cure for cancer or maybe part of a laser engraving system sold by a marking company. All of these are real examples of where Base Lab Tools parts have been used.
- Being a lifelong learner. This position requires a considerable amount of study and practice. Enjoying math and measurement is critical to success.
- Thinking like a member of a Nascar pit crew. While machines are humming along doing their work, you are getting ready for the time where you must leap into action, changing out parts or tools or both in the shortest amount of time so the machine can get back up and running.
- Safety and quality conscious.
If this describes you, you may be perfect as a CNC Machine Operator Trainee at Base Lab Tools.
