  • Grant Application Process 

    In celebration of National Entrepreneurship Month, Hartbeat is partnering with 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Black on the Block Community Outreach Inc. Hartbeat will channel its entrepreneurial roots and storytelling expertise to work with Black on the Block to support other Black-owned businesses.

    Hartbeat is working with Black on the Block Community Outreach to provide a grant covering the vendor fees for up to 50 eligible small businesses participating in Black on the Block's November Market and Hartbeat will create a vendor spotlight video for one vendor selected by Black on the Block and Hartbeat. 

    Hartbeat is the global entertainment company founded by Kevin Hart with a mission to keep the world laughing together. The company creates content and experiences at the intersection of comedy and culture. Hartbeat aims to generate opportunities for the next generation of diverse voices across its projects.

    To ensure a fair and thorough evaluation of all applications, please follow the instructions provided below: 


    1. Submit Vendor Application 

    Before you submit this grant application, please be sure you have submitted a Vendor Application for the November 19th event through the Black on the Block App. Those who have not submitted a vendor application first will not be considered for this grant. 

     

    2. Eligibility Criteria

    Before proceeding with the grant application, please review the eligibility criteria below to confirm that your business qualifies for the grant. Eligibility factors may include business size, industry, location, and alignment with our community-oriented goals.  


    3. Notification

    After the review process is complete, we will notify all applicants of the grant decisions via email no later than November 9th. Successful applicants will receive further instructions on how to proceed.

    TERMS

    1. This grant can only be used towards a 10x10 space, 10x10 food tent, or food truck. Those applying for 10x20 or Platinum spaces will not qualify. 

    2. This grant can only be used for the November Market. Funds will not be carried over to future markets should you be approved but are unable to attend the Nov 19, 2023 market.

  • Eligibility Requirements 

    1. Business Ownership

    The applying business must be at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by individuals who identify as Black or African American.


    2. Compliance and Licenses

    The business should be in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations in California. This includes holding any required licenses, permits, or certifications necessary to operate legally at events that are located in your city.  

     

    3. Months/Years in Operation

    The business must have been in operation for a minimum of six months (at the time of application) to demonstrate its viability and sustainability.

     

    4. Demonstrated Need

    The applicant must articulate a clear need for the grant funds to support and enhance its participation in events. 

     
    Out of the 100 businesses Black on the Block accepts, up to 50 businesses will have their vendor fee waived for the November market. If you are a grant recipient, you will receive an invoice for $0.
