• ADOPTION APPLICATION

  • Exotic bird ownership is a serious responsibility and the adoption of an unwanted or rescued bird can introduce a myriad of additional factors which need to be considered.  The Parrot Outreach Society wants to be certain you understand what you’re in for before you make the decision to adopt a bird.  We also want to be certain we know enough about you to feel confident we’re placing the bird into a satisfactory environment.  Thank you for your interest in adopting a bird from us!

  • Please answer all of the questions below and use additional sheets or the back of this form if you need more space.  Please write “N/A” if a question isn’t applicable to you or your situation.  All questions must be answered for the application to be processed.

  • We do ask for a formal adoption donation, which varies according to species and condition, (and is lower than the fees requested in larger cities}, to help us offset the costs of helping birds in need.  Money orders or cashier's check should be made payable to PARROT OUTREACH SOCIETY and the memo should read RESCUE.  We do NOT accept personal checks. Donations are non-refundable.

Completion of this application does not guarantee you will qualify to adopt a bird. Prior to adoption, one or more members of the Parrot Society Rescue Team will do a home visit via video to be sure you will be able to provide a healthy and safe environment for the bird.  Please understand that a criminal background check will be done ONLY to ensure the adopter has no animal cruelty charges against them.

Please be Advised:  Anyone attempting to acquire birds for persons having lost pets to any County Animal Control or FFWC will be reported to the authorities.  An Adoption Contract must be signed prior to the bird leaving our possession.

Please be advised that all home visits are being done via video call.

The Parrot Outreach Society is committed to ensuring a safe and positive experience for all individuals involved in the bonding and adoption process of parrots. However, it is important to understand that the behavior of a parrot can be unpredictable, particularly during the initial stages of bonding or adaptation to a new environment. While the society takes every precaution to assess and ensure the compatibility between parrots and potential adopters, it cannot be held liable for any injuries, including bites, that may occur during these interactions. By signing this document and participating in the bonding or adoption process, you acknowledge that handling or being in close proximity to parrots involves inherent risks, and you accept responsibility for your own safety during the process.
