    Application Information & Guidelines

    The Graduate Division is pleased to announce the availability of the UCR Emeriti Association Graduate Student Travel Award for Ph.D. students in any discipline who plan to:

    1. Travel to present research at a scholarly conference, or
    2. Travel to conduct dissertation research.

    Award Details
    Awards will be made up to:

    • $1,500 for domestic travel
    • $2,000 for international travel

    Eligible Ph.D. students may apply for funding to:

    • Present research at a national or international professional conference, or
    • Conduct dissertation research that requires travel to another institution, museum, private collection, or field site.

    Students must be:

    • Currently enrolled and in good academic standing
    • Advanced to candidacy
    • Typically no more than one year past normative time by degree completion

    Award recipients will be required to submit a written report and give a brief presentation about their funded travel at a future UCR Emeriti Association Luncheon.

    Eligibility & Application Requirements
    A. Conference Presentation Travel (Type A)
    Applicants must:

    • Be the first author and presenter of the accepted research.
    • Submit an official copy of the conference proceedings verifying the presentation.
    • Provide an itemized expense list with original receipts (registration, hotel, airfare, or transportation) to the Graduate Division (UOB 100) within 14 days after travel or within 5 business days of award notification if the travel occurred earlier.

    If the student is also requesting reimbursement from the Graduate Student Association (GSA), all original receipts must be submitted to GSA within 3 business days, with copies provided to the Graduate Division.

    Travel awards may cover reasonable transportation costs, registration fees, and University per diem expenses.

    Applicants may apply before or after their travel:

    • If applying before travel, proof of presentation must be provided after the trip.
    • If applying after travel, applications must be submitted by the next available deadline.

    B. Dissertation Research Travel (Type B)
    Applicants must submit a research justification document describing the purpose and goals of the proposed travel.

    If the research involves human subjects, animals, or recombinant DNA, approvals from the appropriate campus committees are required.

    • Include copies of approval notices with the application, or note that approvals are pending (funding may be delayed until approval is confirmed).
    • Research conducted in K–12 schools must include written permission from appropriate school authorities.

    Travel awards may cover reasonable accommodation, transportation, and University per diem expenses.
    Receipts and an itemized expense list must be submitted to the Graduate Division (UOB 100) within 14 days after travel or within 5 business days of award notification if the trip occurred prior to the deadline.

    Students may apply after travel, but applications must be submitted by the next application deadline.

    Note: Students who have previously received the Earl C. Anthony Graduate Student Travel Award or the UCR Emeriti Association Student Travel Award are not eligible for another presentation travel award.

    Application Deadline
    Winter 2026 Deadline: February 16, 2026, by 5:00 p.m.
    This includes submission of both the application and the letter of recommendation.

    Applicants will be notified of their award status approximately one month after the deadline.
