UCR Emeriti Graduate Student Travel Award
Graduate Division is pleased to announce the availability of the UCR Emeriti Association Graduate Student Travel Award for PhD students in any field who (a) travel to present research at scholarly conferences OR (b) travel to conduct dissertation research.
Awards: The UCR Emeriti Association Graduate Student Travel Awards will be made in amounts of up to $1500 for domestic travel and $2000 for international travel. Eligible PhD students can apply for funds to support travel (a) to present research at a top tier national or international professional society or specialized conference OR (b) to access resources available at another institution, museum, private collection, or field site to conduct dissertation research. Students must be currently enrolled, in good academic standing, advanced to candidacy, and typically no more than one year past normative time by completion of their degree. Award recipients must provide a written report and make a brief presentation about the benefits provided by their funded travel at a Luncheon meeting of the UCR Emeriti Association.
Eligible students applying for support type (a) must be the first author on and be the presenter of the research submitted to the meeting/conference. Students will be reimbursed after travel has been completed. The student must provide Graduate Division (UOB 100) with an official copy of the meeting/conference proceedings, documenting the awardee’s presentation, and must also submit an itemized list of the expenses with attached original receipts (registration, hotel bill, airfare or other transportation) within 14 days of the conclusion of the trip (or within 5 business days of the award notification if travel occurred prior to the application deadline). If the student is also requesting reimbursement from the GSA, all original documentation must be submitted to the GSA within 3 business days and only copies are to be submitted to the Graduate Division. Travel awards may be used for reasonable transportation costs, registration fees, and the University per diem. Students may apply for these travel awards prior to receiving an acknowledgement that their work has been accepted for presentation but must then demonstrate that their work was presented as stated in their application. Students may also apply for these awards after their travel is completed but must do so by the next application deadline following their travel. Current and previous recipients of the Earl C. Anthony Graduate Student Travel Award or the UCR Emeriti Association Student Travel Award are not eligible to receive another presentation travel award.
Eligible students applying for support type (b) must provide a document justifying the need and goals for the planned research travel. Research proposals using Recombinant DNA, humans or animals require approval by designated campus committees. Forms and further information may be found at http://or.ucr.edu/. Provide copies of approval notices or indicate that approval is pending. If approvals are pending the release of funds may be delayed. Research in schools (K-12) must have written permission from the proper authorities submitted with the application. Travel awards may be used for reasonable accommodation, transportation costs and the University per diem. The student must provide Graduate Division (UOB 100) with an itemized list of the expenses with attached original receipts (hotel bill, airfare or other transportation) within 14 days of the conclusion of the trip (or within 5 business days of the award notification if travel occurred prior to the application deadline). Students may also apply for these awards after their travel is completed but must do so by the next application deadline following their travel. Current and previous recipients of the UCR Emeriti Association Graduate Student Travel Award or other University funded dissertation travel award are not eligible to receive another travel award.
