The 1st annual
Better Together Conference
January 23rd, 24th & 25th, 2024
Hotel Maya, Long Beach
The conference will be centered on JMCS/Partner Agency collaboration for student success.
Workshops and breakout sessions will focus on supporting staff to serve all program participants-both students and non-students - more fully and effectively.
The Better Together Conference is mandatory for all JMCS staff that are at half-time or greater. The entire week of January 22nd-26th are non-student work days, so there is no need to cover classes. The conference is January 23rd, 24th and 25th for JCMS staff.
If you are less than full time and will expend extra hours in attending, please speak with your director about supplemental pay. If you are hourly (less than half time) but would like to attend, please reach out to your director.
JMCS will pay for staff travel expenses: including mileage, food and lodging. JMCS will assist in making arrangements for staff as needed (flights, shuttles, etc).
JMCS Administrative Coordinator Dawn Ryley will email with further information for booking flights, hotel and reimbursements.
Additional Pre-Conference Day
We will be offering an optional pre-conference professional development opportunity at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles on Monday, January 22nd.
This opportunity is free for all educators and partners and includes transportation from the Museum of Tolerance to Long Beach if needed. Topics may include Positive School Culture and Climate, Trauma Informed Practices, and Equity-Centered Approach for School Leadership.
John Muir Charter Schools may cover conference and travel costs for one partner participant per site.
Additional participants may attend for the general admission cost of $350. This includes all meals during the conference time, but does not include travel or hotel expenses. The Hotel Maya has given us a special rate of $229 per night. You will be receiving an email from JMCS Administrative Coordinator Dawn Ryley with further information for booking flights, hotel, and payment if applicable.
