    As XX of companies and investors that are committed to global forest protection, we urge signatories of the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use (“Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration”) to support and enable the creation of a Glasgow Declaration Accountability Framework to facilitate the successful implementation of its 2030 goals of halting and reversing deforestation and land degradation. 


    The marketplace increasingly demands standards for sourcing forest-risk commodities that align with addressing the climate and biodiversity challenges our world faces. This includes ensuring the protection of high-integrity forests around the world and eliminating deforestation and forest degradation from supply chains. 


    We recognize that as marketplace actors we play an important role in meeting these standards, but we also need government leadership to drive comprehensive, equitable, and effective progress across globally linked economies.  


    Government accountability translates into marketplace certainty and transformative change. 


    The establishment of a Glasgow Declaration Accountability Framework would provide the tools to meet the 2030 goals essential to preserving our globally vital forests. Through promoting transparency through reporting and improved monitoring, facilitating and financing just and sustainable economies, and aligning the international community around scientifically rigorous standards for the climate and biodiversity, a Glasgow Declaration Accountability Framework  can better position companies and financial institutions to align our practices with what consumers, policymakers, and global exigencies increasingly demand: an end to deforestation and land degradation around the world. 


    Accountability is not anathema to a thriving economy; rather, it creates marketplace certainty, allows for data-driven decision making, and encourages sustainable innovation. Through promoting transparency, facilitation and finance, and global alignment, the Glasgow Declaration Accountability Framework will not only provide the tools for you to deliver on your forest protection commitments, but spur marketplace transformation toward an equitable, sustainable future.
