  • Gladstone Emergency Management Agency (GEMA)

  • The Gladstone Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) is an operations support group and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) that was formed in 1990. Its mission is to aid in the preservation of life and property for the citizens of Gladstone in times of disaster, whether man-made or natural in cause, and to assist the officers and staff of the various departments of the City of Gladstone. GEMA has two branches that may be applied to, “Active CERT Volunteers” and “Reserve CERT Volunteers”.
     
    Active CERT Volunteers:
     
    Volunteers who are fully engaged members and regularly participate in training, exercises, and deployments. They are available for emergency responses, community outreach, and events, maintaining a consistent level of readiness and involvement.
     
    Reserve CERT Volunteers:
     
    Volunteers who are less actively involved but remain part of the team for occasional participation. They are trained and ready to assist during larger-scale emergencies or when additional support is needed, however, aren’t required to attend regular activities and meetings.
     
    Requirements to Volunteer:
     
    Be at least 18 years old.
    Pass a criminal background check.
    Be able to perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and digging.
    Active CERT Volunteers must be able to respond to emergencies and participate in drills or exercises on a regular basis. Reserve CERT Volunteers must be able to attend one planned meeting a year.
