  • Explaination: DHEC requires that we perform a background check on each applicant that wants to join the team. This information is private and will not be disclosed for any other purpose but to secure your background check. Information regarding Date of Birth, Ethnicity, Gender, Social Security Number is used solely for the purposes of identification in connection with the various database searches that are performed, and for no other purpose.

  • Please Note: According to DHEC regulation for In Home Care Providers Section 300.E.5, all caregiver must be at least 18 years of age or older to provide care in South Carolina.

    According to the Date of Birth you entered above, you are younger than 18 years of age and therefore NOT eligable to work for an In Home Care Provider according to DHEC regulations. We recommend returning when you are 18 years old to re-start the application process! We look forward to seeing you soon!

  • Explaination: To help identify and rule out anyone that might have a criminal history, we ask for the last few places that you have lived. As an example, if a check finds your name associated with a crime in a state that you've never lived in, we can compare the findings against where you have lived. Thank you!

  • Explaination: Ok, so now is the time to 'come clean'. If you have ANY misdemeanors r felonies that will show up on a background check, this is the time to spill the beans. Keep in mind, this is private, and we understand that things happen. DHEC does not allow us to hire if there are certain criminal convictions in your past, but others are not show stoppers. We've been asked many times so YES, trust me, WE DO ACTIALLY check local, state and national databases for criminal history! We'd rather have you talk with us than spend all of your time and energy only to find that we can't move forward. Being honest is always the best policy. 

    You must report each and every conviction, regardless of the date of the conviction, and regardless whether the conviction arose from a trial, guilty plea or no contest plea. It is your responsibility to make sure that the information you provide is accurate and complete. If you are hired and we determine that you have failed to accurately report your criminal history, your employment will be terminated 

  • Please Note: According to DHEC regulation for In Home Care Providers Section 300.E.6 and 7, all caregiver in South Carolina must be able to pass the following:

    6. Not have prior convictions or have pled no contest (nolo contendere) to crimes related to theft, abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a child or a vulnerable adult as defined in S.C. Code Section 43-35-10 et seq., for child or adult abuse, neglect or mistreatment, or a criminal offense similar in nature to the crimes listed in this subsection. and 

    7. Not have prior convictions or have pled no contest (nolo contendere) to crimes related to drugs within ten (10) years of providing in-home care to clients.

    This is a DHEC requirement and not a Visiting Angels requirement, so this is the same for ALL in home care providers in South Carolina. If you are not able to meet these requirements, please call our office for confirmation (864)244-6300. Also, please note that arrests do not mean convictions.

  • Authorization: I certify that all of the above information is true and correct to the best of my knowledge, information and belief. As a condition of my application for employment, I hereby authorize Visiting Angels to conduct any and all criminal background checks and/or motor vehicle driver’s screenings on me that Visiting Angels deems appropriate. I also agree that Visiting Angels may hire or retain third parties to perform such criminal background checks. Further, I authorize the custodian of any records or information relating to my criminal history to release any and all records and information regarding my criminal history to Visiting Angels and/or its agents. In the event that I am hired, I understand and agree that Visiting Angels and/or its agents may, from time to time, conduct additional criminal background checks on me without further notice to me.

  • Step 3: Skill Assessment

    Step 3: Skill Assessment

  • One of the main functions of being a caregiver is that you have the skills to actually be a caregiver. Since there are so many skills that are required, we would like to ask the following questions to better understand what your skill set is. Please keep in mind that at Visiting Angels, we welcome a basic companion and a highly skilled certified caregiver with open arms. That being said, we want to make sure that when we are matching you, that we understand your skill set and place you with a family that is well suited for your abilities. This skill assessment also helps us to better understand what training may be most beneficial for you as we move forward. Noone knows everything!

  • Step 4: Residency Status

    Step 4: Residency Status

  • DHEC, who governs and licenses home care, reuires that caregivers undergo a background check to help ensure safety. As such, the following regulations are required by DHEC to determine what kind of background check is required. Please select which category you fall into:

  • FBI Fingerprint Scan Required:

    You have selected that you cannot prove residency in South Carolina or another state in the past 12 months. This means that you have lived in multiple states in the past 12 months OR that you cannot provide the required documentation needed to prove that.

    • A driver's license or identification card issued by the State of South Carolina or another state that is greater than 12 months prior to application date
    • Rent, mortgage, or utility receipts in the applicant's name for a home within South Carolina or another state 12 months prior to application date
    • Pay stubs in the applicant's name from a business located in South Carolina or another state 12 months prior to application date
    • Bank records in the applicant's name showing a deposit or checking account held in a South Carolina or another state branch office of a bank 12 months prior to application date

    If this is indeed so, per DHEC regulations require that you take part in an FBI finger print background check. This process is a bit costly and can take a few weeks to conduct, so if there is any opportunity that you could be considered a state resident, of SC or any other state, it will help speed things along.

  • When a caregiver is hired, DHEC reuires that all caregivers undergo a minimum amount of training. Below is the required DHEC training. Please review the following documents. If there are any questions, please let us know and we would be happy to explain or elaborate. You will be emailed a certificate for each trianing course below once your trianing has been completed.
