MAEO STARS Student Awards

The Michigan Alternative Education Organization sponsors the following scholarships and awards. Please read the description and requirements before applying. Students who would like to apply for more than one of the award types may do so by filling out 3 separate applications- do this by submitting one and re-entering the site to fill out and submit another.
NOTE: STARS are stand-out students who attend alternative education schools where a MAEO member is present.

Students DO NOT have to attend STARS events to be eligible for awards or scholarships.
STARS Futures Award-
Students who win this award will receive a scholarship either a $500 or $1000 to use toward college, trade or the training program of their choice. ANY- ALL post secondary learning experience(s) will be considered.

Requirements-

Students applying are asked to submit a written letter describing thier future plans, provide their chosen college or trade program name, a description of their chosen program, why this program is the right fit and the impact that completing their college/trade plans might impact their future. They will also submit at least one letter of recommendation from a MAEO member, staff at their school or an adult in the community.

Students who are selected will (later) recieve very specific instructions regarding how to claim their award, these will include: providing a letter of acceptance, mailing address, and contact person at the college, trade program or class (the check will be sent to the organization).

STARS Career & College Competition Award-
Students win this award recieve a fee waiver to attend the STARS Career & College Competition in May at Delta College. (see www.maeo.org/maeo-stars for more information)

Requirements-

Students applying are asked to submit a short video or essay answering why they are an alternative ed STAR, what makes them resilient, and how they show leadership in their school, home or community.

STARS Community Investment Award-

Students who win this award will receive money to invest in their community

Requirements-

Student are asked to provide a video or essay description of a current or future planned community investment- financial investment, time/resources investment, reasons for choosing this project, how it would positively impact their community, and what it will mean to the student to have the opportunity to oversee this project
Award must be spent to completion by the end of the calendar year (January '26)
A detailed accounting of funds spent must be provided.

5. MAEO Member- School mentor letter of reference

Membership is free. If not already a member, go to www.maeo.org for easy access.
Provide the full name and title of your school reference. Tell us about this mentor (teacher, coach, secretary...etc) willing to be your reference and why you chose them.*
