Bermuda Day Rules
1. Entry Rules
1.1 Details of your group, a sketch of your design, and a short written description of your entry should be submitted to the Department of Culture (“DCCA”) by April 19, 2024.
1.2 Costumes of participants should not be vulgar and have appropriate coverage for a family event.
1.3 Suggestive or violent dancing is prohibited.
1.4 Music must be free of profanity or sexually explicit lyrics, i.e. radio edits. Music selection should include songs by Bermudian artists.
1.5 All participants and drivers must obey instructions of Parade Marshals. Profanity or abuse towards Marshals will not be tolerated.
1.6 Floats or moving vehicles may not interfere with any other individual/group in the parade.
1.7 Parade participants may not jump on or off vehicles while moving.
1.8 Any criminal activity, including alcohol consumption, is not allowed and will be reported to the Bermuda Police Service. Such reports could result in arrest of the driver or passenger(s).
1.9 Any unlawful activity will be reported to the appropriate authority.
1.10 All decisions under these rules shall be at the sole discretion of DCCA.
2. Bermuda Day Rules
2.1 Entries in judging categories must arrive at 7:30 AM. Judging begins at 8:00 AM or soon thereafter.
2.2 Awards are given by the responsible Minister for entries in judging categories at 11:30 AM. A representative for the group should be at the entry for this.
2.3 Upon arrival at a point to be determined, drivers of vehicles must register with the Parade Marshals and be directed to their waiting position. Drivers must not leave their vehicles until this occurs.
2.4 Drivers must return to their vehicles by at least 1:00 PM. The parade begins at 1:30 PM sharp.
2.5 Bathroom facilities will be located at Barr’s Bay Park. Please do not ask residents/businesses to use bathrooms.
2.6 For safety reasons, parade participants must not throw any item towards spectators.
2.7 The Parade Marshals will provide the signal for movement throughout the parade route, groups are not allowed to move forward unless a signal has been provided
2.8 Entries awaiting the start of the parade will be positioned along Bermudiana Road, Par-La-Ville Road, or Pitts Bay Road. Parade Marshals will indicate times to move or to stop.
2.9 All young people under 8 years of age should be continually supervised by a person of at least 16 years of age.
3. Waiver
I/We hereby consent and grant you, for an indefinite term, the authority to photograph or record me/us and to use my/our likeness, image, sound, recording, performance or any portion thereof (together, the “Performance”) or name throughout the world in any medium, including, but not limited to any reproduction, recording, portrayal, publication, copying, modification, performance, distribution or display of my name, image, likeness, voice, speech and other personal characteristics in any manner, form, format or media whatsoever (“Media”) for any purpose relating in any way to the publication, display, advertising, marketing or promotion of whatsoever purpose that you may choose. I/we also acknowledge and agree that I/we will not have the right to review the Media or my Performance before publication or distribution.
4. Consequence Of Not Following these Rules
Failure to follow these rules will mean:
4.1 you or your group forfeiting any prizes; or
4.2 you or your group’s removal from the parade; or
4.3 you and/or your group being prevented from participating in future parades or other events.
5. COVID-19 Rules
5.1 Groups should follow current Government guidance regarding hand sanitizing and physically distancing from other groups while waiting to begin parade.
5.2 It is strongly recommended that each member of the group take a lateral flow/antigen test the morning of the Bermuda Day Parade.
5.3 It is the responsibility of the person signing this document to ensure that all participants in their group are not on quarantine, are not currently positive for COVID-19, or currently suffering from COVID-19 symptoms.
5.4 Each party shall indemnify, keep indemnified and defend the other against any actions, claims, demands, costs, liabilities, penalties, fines, expense (including legal expense) related to breach of these Covid-19 rules.
5.5 The parties shall not be liable to each other for any economic loss, including but not limited to: expenditure, opportunity to make money, lost contracts, lost revenue, or other commercial or economic loss, whether such loss or liabilities are direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential foreseen or unforeseen.
