    ABOUT UPWARD BOUND:

    Upward Bound is a TRIO program funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant. Upward Bound's goal is to generate in participants the skills and motivation necessary to complete a program of secondary education and to enter and succeed in a program of postsecondary education.

     

    LIST OF REQUIRED DOCUMENTS: 

    • Copy of your Social Security card
    • The Certification of Income and Family Information, and the Release/Permission Form (completed and signed by parent/guardian(s) and student) which is included in the application.

    If necessary, to further verify eligibility, Upward Bound may request a copy of any of the following documents:

    U.S  Citizenship /Residency:

    • U.S. birth certificate, or
    • Puerto Rican birth certificate (issued after July 2010), or
    • U.S. Certificate of Citizenship document, or
    • U.S. passport, or
    • Permanent Resident Card (I-551 or I-94), or
    • Certificate of U.S. Naturalization (form N-550 or N-570 - both sides), or
    • Document as evidence of your intent to become a permanent resident

    Income Verification:

    • Your parents' 2022 Federal Income Tax Form(s) pages 1 and 2 of the 1040 Form - at least one document should have the student listed as a dependent (check stubs or W-2 are not valid documents), or
    • Official documentation verifying that you and/or your family are on public assistance with benefit amount, or
    • Official documentation from the Social Security or Veteran's Administration, with benefit summary.

  • The RIC Upward Bound Program is sponsored by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Federal guidelines require that Upward Bound participants meet specific income requirements. All income information requested will be held in the strictest confidence and records will be maintained according to the U.S. Dept. of Education Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). If requested, you agree to provide further documentation to verify the information reported.

    1) We, the student and parent/legal guardian(s), do hereby permit the release of the student's academic records including but not limited to courses, grades, individual education plans, standardized test scores, and proof of graduation to the Rhode Island College Upward Bound Program for the purposes of tracking student progress and compiling and reporting data to the United States Department of Education, Office of Post-Secondary Education. We understand that the United States Department of Education requires the Rhode Island College Upward Bound Program to report on the student's academic progress through either his/her graduation from college or for at least six years after high school graduation (even if the student does not graduate from the program This information includes financial aid awards and academic transcripts for each semester that the student is enrolled in college.

    2) We, the student and parent/legal guardian(s), do hereby permit the Rhode Island College Upward Bound Program to release the academic records about the student and his/her participation in Upward Bound to the Public School District in which the student is enrolled, the Rhode Island Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, and to the U.S. Department of Education for legitimate educational interests.

    3)We hereby grant to the Rhode Island College Upward Bound Program the right to reproduce, use, exhibit, display, broadcast, distribute, and create using photographs or videotaped images of the undersigned person to promote, publicize, or explain the program or its activities. This grant includes without limitation the right to publish such images in the college PR/promotional materials, such as marketing and admissions publications, advertisements, fundraising materials, and any other program-related publication. These images may appear in any of the wide variety of formats and media, including social media, now available to the college and that may be available in the future, including but not limited to print, broadcast, videotape, and electronic/online/social media.

    4) If accepted, we grant permission for the student to receive all services from the Upward Bound Program including, but not limited to, meeting with the Program Counselors and staff for personal and academic advising in the high schools or at the Program offices on the campus of Rhode Island College.
