ESSAY OPTIONS
ESSAY OPTION 1:
Reflect on a time when you were inspired by someone who has spoken out and taken action against injustice. What injustice did you observe? What leadership qualities stood out to you? How did this inspire you to speak out or take action on topics of importance in your life?
ESSAY OPTION 2:
You are only months away from being able to vote. What can you do now to be more civically engaged and create a more equitable society? How can you help the adults in your life to make decisions to support your generation?
ESSAY OPTION 3:
Identify one form of inequality you have observed in your school or community. What advice would you offer to teachers, administrators, or your peers to address this inequality and support marginalized groups to be more included, celebrated, and understood?
PROJECT OPTIONS
PROJECT OPTION 1:
Imagine a new club you could start at your school next year to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. What social issues would you address and what projects would you accomplish during the year? How could you promote this club so others feel welcome and excited to participate?
To promote this club, you may CHOOSE ONE from the three creative options below:
- Create a short video.
- Design a flyer or social media campaign.
- Write a proposal to your school administrators, seeking their support to run this club.
PROJECT OPTION 2:
As a high school junior, what advice would you offer an incoming ninth grader (or to your younger self) to help them feel more accepted and confident? What lessons do you wish you had learned at an earlier age? Write a 1-2 page letter to this ninth grader or to your younger self.
