GSUSA is seeking up to eleven (11) new members to join the National Girl Scout Advisory Board to GSUSA for a two-year term.

The National Girl Scout Advisory Board to GSUSA is a group of middle and high school Girl Scouts who make recommendations, contribute to key initiatives, and influence decision-making processes with our national office. Advisory board members develop leadership skills, collaborate with decision-makers at GSUSA, and grow skills to prepare for post-secondary education and future leadership opportunities.

Members of the Girl Scout Advisory Board to GSUSA contribute to many different projects, such as:
● Brainstorming names for new cookie flavors
● Giving feedback on Highest Awards recognitions
● Participating in GSUSA-led research
● Sharing opinions on new program content
● Meeting with international Girl Guides and Girl Scouts

2026 National Girl Scout Convention
Among other projects, the Girl Scout Advisory Board will provide input and feedback to the development of the 2026 National Girl Scout Convention. The advisory board will also have the opportunity to design and lead sessions for older girls during the convention. GSUSA will cover the costs of travel, accommodations, and registration for Girl Scout Advisory Board members from Wednesday, July 22 to Sunday, July 26, 2026. Members of the advisory board should not have other roles during the Convention, such as national delegates.

GSUSA will work with each advisory board member’s council on travel and accommodations with their delegation.

Qualifications

●       Current Girl Scout in 6th – 10th grade.

●       Interested in taking on a leadership role at the national level of Girl Scouts.

●       Able to communicate with peers and with adults.

●       Able to work well independently and with a team.

●       Committed to using technology for research and communication.

●       Members of the advisory board should not have other roles during the Convention, such as national delegates.

Responsibilities

●       Able to attend and actively participate in one to two (1-2) virtual meetings a month from May 2025 and April 2027, for a total of 50-70 hours. This includes one monthly call with the entire group which takes place on the 4th Sunday of the month (adjusted for holidays) and potentially one call with a smaller working group or subcommittee if needed. The monthly schedule is included below.

●       Agree to the following attendance policy: Members must attend at least 75% of the meetings. If four or more meetings are missed (25%), with or without notice, the opportunity to attend the 2026 National Girl Scout Convention will be withdrawn.

●       Consistently contribute feedback to GSUSA during meetings and on digital platforms

●       Communicate directly with GSUSA staff and volunteer facilitators about the advisory board work, possible absences, etc. 

●       Work in groups and independently to complete and present research and tasks.

●       Complete an additional 2-4 hours per month to research or tasks outside of meetings, for a total of 50-100 hours over the next two (2) years, as necessary.

●       Available to attend the 2026 National Girl Scout Convention in Washington, D.C. (Travel expenses, accommodations and registration will be paid by Girl Scouts of the USA)

 

 

You may respond to each question in written or video format. There is no preference given for using one format over the other. Reviewers will consider your responses for interest in the role, skills & experience, innovative thinking, teamwork and overall communication.

For written responses, each answer must be 1000 characters or less (including spaces).

For video responses, each video must be under 2 minutes. It is your responsibility to make sure that the video is viewable. You can upload your video to a file-sharing site that can generate a link to either view or download your video (e.g., Vimeo, YouTube, Google Drive, Dropbox). Ensure that anyone with the link can view or download the video, BUT make sure your video is not publicly available or searchable. For YouTube, you can make your video "Unlisted". For Vimeo, you can add a password alongside your link.  

Some video tips:  

·        The video can be made using any recording device, including a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or digital camera. 

·        Selfie-style videos are accepted and encouraged; your video does not need to be professionally shot or edited—we just want to hear your response clearly!  

·        If you are recording your video from your cell phone, please hold the phone horizontally as it captures higher quality video. 

4. An important part of this role is coming up with innovative solutions and sharing feedback to GSUSA. Members of the Girl Scout Advisory Board contribute to the national strategy at GSUSA by offering feedback and new ideas to staff members on key initiatives. Choose one prompt below and give us your best idea:

a. Girl Scouts has a goal to grow our membership. What is one way for Girl Scouts to attract new members to our organization, particularly from families who have never done Girl Scouts before?

b. Related to our goal of growing membership, we also want to make sure that current members stay engaged in Girl Scouts as they grow up. What is one way for Girl Scouts to continue to engage current members through elementary, middle, and high school?

c. We want our membership to reflect our communities and the United States as a whole. Particularly, Girl Scouts has a goal to increase membership of Black and Hispanic girls and families. What are your recommendations for reaching this goal?

d. To better serve girls, volunteers, councils and our whole community, Girl Scouts has a goal to increase our revenue. What is one idea you have for Girl Scouts to increase revenue?

e. We want Girl Scouts to have opportunities to connect with the international community and to see themselves as global citizens. What’s one way we might achieve this goal
