  • The Citizen and Minister's Police Academy is a 10-week program designed to teach citizens and leaders of Hampton's faith-based community about the mission, policies, and day-to-day operations of the Police Division. The program curriculum is designed to educate the citizen in an effort to improve communication between citizens and police and dispel misconceptions the community may have about the Police.

    Classes are 6:30-8:30 p.m. and begin Monday, January 26, 2026 and run every Monday through March 30, 2026. (exception: No class Monday, February 16, 2026 due to President's Day. Class will be made up on Wednesday, February 18, 2026)

    Applications must be completed by individuals who are at least 18 years of age.

  • Rules

  • 1. Each participant must complete an application and sign a Release of Information authorization. Applications will be reviewed by an admissions committee for approval of attendance.

    2. A criminal records check will be conducted on all applicants prior to the start of the Academy.

    3. Except for sickness and emergencies, participants should not be absent from any of the training sessions. Absence from more than two sessions will prevent a participant from graduating.

    4. Participants are expected to dress in appropriate attire.

    5. Participants shall not be armed at any time during the Academy.
