Kimber Run 4 – New Tivoli Theatre
Fisher Street, Clifton
The theatre was built in 1911 and converted to a picture theatre in 1938 and is one of the last remaining country cinemas in the west, complete with sloping floors and canvas seating. Ruth Hungerford still runs the theatre. The venue is well preserved capturing the aesthetic of times gone by.
It started life in what was known as Rickert’s Hall with the first movies being shown by a locally formed company known as the Clifton Picture Company.
Ruth’s father, Hector Hungerford, later acquired the theatre, which was called the Tivoli, but the name had to be changed to the New Tivoli Theatre, as the former had already been taken elsewhere.
Morning tea and a Film will be included in registration fee.
Lunch will be available at O’Shanley’s Irish Bar & Restaurant, 54 Clark Street, Clifton (own cost)
